Do you get it? What did you do to help prevent it ongoing? I know stretching helps, but what helps stop it from occurring at all? I had it bad this year, scary when leading a climb and that happens.

i think i only once got a hand cramp doing this horrible pinch, did a crappy warm up and that was probably why. warm up well, stay hydrated, and if you consistently get a cramp doing one move look into it could be pinching something i suppose. i find with a warm up i don't cramp i just hold on till exhaustion

Bananas do the trick for cramps (a low level of potassium in your body is one of the causes of muscle cramps) or so says a friend of mine that is really into fitness training. While you are at it you may as well have chocolate banana pancakes.

I warm down more than I warm up, usually as I warm up fast, but should stretch the hands more at least beforehand.

Hey, I know all about bananas. I eat one a day, every morning at breakfast. Plenty of potassium for sure. I still got hand cramp though, a few times at least.

I always used to think salt was the answer, but it is more a combination of electrolyte replenishment. Chocolate, yer it tastes good and that's it, aftereights are very yum. how did you arrive at electrolytes from that post?

K+ Na+ are are all body electrolytes, and if depleted yes it will cause cramp, so I'll take powerade and an extra banana with me from now on

Probably because potassium is an electrolyte.

Glucosamine-Chondroitin-MSM Complex seems to work when I cramping after the climb. I normally take this supplement twice a day.

I've used this in the past, briefly, but there was no solid evidence to suggest that this supplement worked. At least not at that point in time. Not sure of that's changed at all?

Well powerade or gatorade makes perfect sense to me and that's what I intend to drink from now on when outdoor climbing. I can see electrolyte depletion being a true cause of hand cramp, as for any cramp. That cramp is hell too. Have you ever fallen on getting a hand cramp?

Maybe the answer you're looking for is in your sig: "Never, never, never... climb till exhaustion. Give up !"
