I have heard that Margheritaville is a great alternative to JTree. (less crowded, dog friendly, etc). Any thoughts?

It depends on what you are looking for. If you want sport climbs and a place to do what ever you please, New Jack or margville is most likely what you want. If you want to hang if a far more prestine area, then Josh is the place. Far better climbing, far more variety etc...

Rafaelr12 wrote: out of jtree, margheritaville and newjack which place has more sport climbing routes? In Joshua Tree West, there are only ~45 sport routes. There are sport routes in Margheritaville, but there is no guidebook that I know of, and using the route database to find climbs will be difficult. New Jack is your best bet for sport climbing, you can't walk past a rock without seeing bolts.
