what about the cravings i get really cranky when i want something and i can't get it so i would imagine camping out in the middle of no where and not being able to get a candy bar would drive me insane. must have a personal stash. oh wait i forgot i usually have s'mores for camping so i guess that would solve the problem.

Fawkes-
really on the clumsy shit.....i was hanging up a plant from one of those ceiling hooksthe other day...while on the period.....anyway i was standing on the chair..reaching...and then i watched myself step into the air...well needless to say i took a good whipper...smashed the flower pot into about 50 pieces....almost smashed pete's guitar...twisted my wrist...made one helluva mess.....but i laughed my ass off. Damn loss of blood.
Pete thought i really hurt myself....i was like no..it's just me, GRACE herself.

oh my god thanks, i'm at work and laughing so hard at your recent failed attempt to walk on air. better luck next time.

we'll have to check our cycles, if you come up to visit when we're both on el raggo we may just run around and bump into things here in toronto....

wife of russman: since i've switched to these other stupid pills, i've been experiencing more of the "typical" symptons. it's great because i know EXACTLY what i want to eat for every meal. sometimes it's just a need for breyer's all natural vanilla ice cream. yum!!!

i get SUPER clumsy when i am on it. i walk around in sort of a daze half the time. it must be due to the loss of blood, which for me isnt a lot, but i still get clumsy. maybe it is the raging hormones too

Ibuprofen (e.g. Advil) supresses the release of the hormones in your body that cause menstruation. If you have problems with cramping, backaches or heavy flow, try taking 2 tablets at breakfast, lunch and dinner starting 2 days before your period begins and continuing until it ends. This will help make your symptoms less severe. I've found it also helps slow down the flow to a more managable level.

Of course, don't do this if you're allergic to Ibuprofen or if it upsets your stomach.

(As an aside: Don't you just want to SMACK all those people who cheerfully say, "Oh, exercise helps with menstrual cramps!" Yeah, right. Let me jab you in the abdomen with a sharp stick for 8 hours straight then see how much you feel like exercising.)

Heat is quite effective as an analgesic, also there are some nice homeopathic remedies on the market with herbs, that are quite soothing at that time of the month.
And if all else fails and you're stressed out then go lie down,or take out your aggression on someone who's been mean. A quick antidote for whatever ails you!!

I have found that if you have KILLER CRAMPS like I do (on the pill or not) that any exercize especially swimming really helps ease cramps, as does excercizing and eating right before your period actually starts. Those who have trouble with tampons I would suggest Platex gentle glide. On the fatigue multi-vitamin and bannannas (I swear they are supposed to help everything).

Hear, hear ropegirl!!! Exercise? I can't even get out of bed when I have cramps! Seriously. I don't just get horrible, pinching cramps, but I also get cold sweats, diarrhea, nausea, faintness. And you want to tell me homeopathic remedies and herbs are gonna help that! The only thing I've that works found is muscle relaxers. I am considering going on the pill so, I would like more info on that. Anybody on Yasmin? I heard it's really low dose. I am really susceptible to emotional effects of hormones though.

For the gal who can't use tampons: try using the applicator ones first. I started using them before I had sex. It took a few tries, but you can do it. Make sure you get the applicator in far enough and find a good position for you, even if you have to lay on the floor (hopefully at your home!) And try to relax as much as possible. Deep breaths! You really will not feel it if it's in right. Good luck!

I found a wonderful little guy I bring with me if I start when we go on climbing excusions (which is always) They're called "Insteads". I don't like Tampons because I always forget about them then find myself with a mess (Ick). They look kind of like a big diaphram and work like a 'catch'. You get used to taking them out and putting them in without making a mess (again, ick). The good thing about them is that you can wear them for up to 12 hours!

i am fine on my period, i usually have an easy time anyways.

but pseudo horror story, i went climbing two weeks ago and was at the end of my period..i forgot to put in a tampon!

i was a few feet up the wall and felt the drip coming on. I was like, holy poo, i can't stop now? and how would i say 'hey, chris (a guy no less!) can you let me down, i have my period. ' ?!?!? so i climbed the rest of the way praying to any power that may be please please no drippage, and i checked to se if i was staining so that it'd be visible below.

i climbed that wall as fast as possible, and ran to the gym bathroom checked myself.

THANK GOD. it was normal.

sigh.

moral of the story.. REMEMBER TO PUT IN A TAMPON!

I'm fine with my period.I have easy days and i can climb.

I don't like much tampons because i have heard some stories about them. There are dangerous and harmful,by using it can lead in many problems and it's not very hygiene.Have you heard what tampons contain? They contain rayon which is for the absorbency and dioxin(a chemical used in bleaching the products).
Have you ever wondered how do those tampons get so white?! and how do they absorb so much fluid?!
The cotton used in tampons is bleached white through the chlorine bleaching process which produces dioxin.I think you've heard dioxin before,it's not a very friendly substance.
There are very few companies that make safe tampons.

If you want to use them just try not to over use them.
Check always the labels.

I can find them in Target or a local Supermarket in Southern California called Ralphs. Ralphs is owned by the Kroger food chain (the largest in the states) so they may all carry them...

Insteads would be messy in the extreme if you were going to be out for many days.

Every time that I've done a wall, the physical stress of it has messed up my cycle. Usually this has meant that I start my period ahead of schedule after I'm down. On one unfortunate (4day/3 night) excursion, the preflight fixing was enough to mess with my hormones, and I ended up donating my only undies to the poop tube early on and, uh, improvising. A gross tale, I know, but not as gross as living the experience. Now just-in-case supplies are as standard as water or cams on my gear list.

Man, I thought I was the only one. Stress brings it on rather then make it disappear for me, too.

Amyrose, watch out if hormones change your mood easily. I went on Yasmin and was fine for a month, but then I started getting severe episodes of depression. They went away when I stopped taking the pill. I didn't try any other birth control pills, but they probably would have been the same. Godd luck if you do try.

hydrate hydrate hydrate....the more water I drink, the better I do. I also take iron tablets and try to load up on potassium. When I start to crave things I pay attention. (If I crave chcolate it usually means I need iron, so I eat broccoli or spinach...if I crave salt, I probably need potassium; etc) I don't like tampons either. They are uncomfortable to me as well.

Try pearl glide tampons. They are very small and pretty comfortable.
