I've never done p90x, but I've had a lot of luck with these... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixrZe60tNzk Once I started using my tongue to climb, I went up at least two grades. No shit.

not a huge fan of p90x myself. but i do do general physical prep (GPP) otherwise known as crossfit, p90x ect whatever form it takes. just another remarketing of basic high school P.E having said that.....My friend LOVES P90x and it has helped him make dramatic improvements in his fitness so i guess whatever works for you dude. He also claims it helped his climbing but i don't know about that one!

This is from a bodybuilding website. What is Muscle Confusion? "One of the most basic, and most important of the training principles, is the muscle confusion training principle. This principle is all about ensuring you have a variety in your workouts. This will be a variety of sets, reps, exercises, rest periods, etc. It is also important to train the muscle from the most efficient position, in which it has the greatest mechanical advantage / stress. It remains critically important to supplement those exercises with others utilizing various angles for certain exercises. Muscles should never be allowed to accommodate to an exercise to the point where the exercise is ineffective and doesn’t result in hypertrophy or the goal you were looking for. This variety will improve your motivation, keep you mentally fresh, and keep your muscles growing." Sounds good to me.

Yes it is good, but will only really help you with your climbing if you apply it with climbing related exercises. Unless you're really out of shape, then a general fitness program is probably not a bad idea.

I'll throw my testimonial out there for p90x as well. I finished the 90 days (admittedly I didn't follow it perfectly...it's crazy intense) about 3 months ago, and am in the best shape of my life. I've always been pretty fit, but the combination of bodyweight exercises, yoga, core workouts, and a bunch of crazy cardio (kenpo, plyometrics, etc) really took my body to the next level. That being said, I do think the program is highly overpriced...but it does work. Oh, and even if you don't plan on buying the program, the pull-up bar is great because you don't have to bolt it in the frame (unless you are on the chubby side), and it has all sorts of handles for wide grip, leg ups and stuff.

thank you svacast. As you can see im not the only one who has benefid from the cross over effect of p90x. its cross over to climbing is both massve and big. as to those who say i dun understnd science well i obviously do. sciencing is all about observation style. I observe then i see a result. In this case i measured my climbing ability before doing p90x and then after p90x. There was a large difference therefore p90x improved my climbing. its very simple science i dunno why u cant understnd this lols. you might ask what bout varianables? well there wernt any. Everything else i did was exactly the same - only new element was p90x. this is SCIENCE this is how they split the atom. p90x is scientifcalyl provben to improve ur climbing as seen in my experminent on myself.

ok i see what you mean by correlation does always not equal causation. BUT that does not mean it cannot sometimes. my data proves the link quite clearly. also i think you r thinkn very linearally. like in a straight line. like something is eithr right or wrong. like a binary. so you might say hey newguy5000 ur wrong but in another context i may be right. you might say 1 + 1 = 2 i might say 1+1 = 3. The answer is only 'right' dependn on the how you constrct the systems,. for me to arguealise another ways i am where i am. i am also where im not. therefore i am everywhere. this is probably a bit advanced for u, so just ingore it lols. but basically im sayings this: "To say I am wrong does not neccessrly mean your right." also - p90x rox.

I don't think there is anything WRONG with p90X. It appears to be a fairly intense exercise system that should help an otherwise healthy adult improve his/her overall fitness. If you have shoulder, elbow, or wrist pain, probably best to rehab that first. Unless you are in fairly poor fitness, though, the non-specific workout will quickly plateau, in terms of further improvements in your climbing. Add more specificity. In other words, I suspect p90x won't help a 5.12 climber get to 5.13. But it will help a 5.7 climber get to 5.9.

im no rep for p90x. to be honest i didnt even pay for the prgram i downloaded it for free as a torrent. (i noe i noe terrible isnt it) i just think its good and does indeed improve climbn. no one here has dispproved my evidence so far - because they cant. As to crossfit being free not really. Have you seen how much the crossfit places charge to work out? and their insane certification fees? dis is harly frees. )and shitloads more than p90x) Also the best exercises in xfit program are the oly lifts and if u never done em before u would be a knob not to pay for proper coaching for form styles. even a squat or a deadlift will fuck u up if u do em really wrong over time. p90x is at least up front that they will jack u. You might say well hey there newguy5000 i can log onto the xfit site for frees man and it tells me the workout. This is true, but did u need to log onto a website to be told dat doing some pushups pull ups and sprinting is good for u? now yes p90x has lots of that stuff too but id argue its more formulated as a system that the random shit xfit spews out. id argualise that xfit is also geard towards shorta bursts of of work whereas the p90x program is longer and constant. Thuslies they train different things to some extant. longer and constant = better carry ova to climbn on a wall. The bursty stuff aint that useful to bursty climbn cause its too different style. (i.e bursty xfit wont help u burst on bouldering angles but long and constant will help u on a tough style root.) so yeah. p90x WILL make u a better climber.

devkrev wrote: The funny thing about P90X, to me it seems, is that its just a rip off of Crossfit, which is free. Actually, P90X is quite a bit better than standard Crossfit as far as developing all-around fitness. The routines are intense without the high risk of injury that comes with a lot of the CF WODs--stuff like kipping pullups and olympic lifts have no place in a climbers training. P90X is based on pretty solid science while CF frequently espouses pseudoscience, misapplies old science (eg Tabatas), and spews nonsense (paleo diet, etc). A focused training program based on the individual is better than P90X. But it's one of the better generic programs out there. Using OHM's analogy, I'd agree it won't make a 5.13 climber out of a 5.12 climber. But it probably can help a 5.10 climber reach 5.11 and help that 5.12 climber perform better on alpine routes.

In reply to: like kipping pullups and olympic lifts have no place in a climbers training Olympic lifts are really the only thing that makes you strong. Everything else is for Sylvester Stalone Climbers. So if you want to get strong then they are the BEST thing to do. However, there is a lot of technique, practice, coordination you have to put in (just like climbing). All of these other things like p90x are selling you something. It does work better than nothing of course but. if you are serious about getting stronger Nothing is better than Olympic lifts.

Thank you, why did it take so long for someone to point this out. p90x is a bunch of hooky BS, go climb. Climbing is not repetitive like running or doing same old pull up, increases flexibility, increases core strength and hell of a lot more fun the "working out".
