FYI- this place is a total choss pile. There are much better options near by. If you are at all considering making a drive to check this spot out, I highly suggest saving the gas.

There ain't no climbing in Old Virginny.

Ain't no climbing at all! For closer spots in the database, check out Choss (Iron) Gate....still loads better than Ravens despite the common name. Old Rag, Hidden, Buzzard, Moormans Bouldering. There are a couple even closer to Raven's that are private property but permission can be obtained if you ask nicely.

Seriously though, I've climbed some horrible choss piles in my life, especially as a youngster growing up in Roanoke without transportation most of the time, and this place is truly crap. Should you decide to climb here, I highly recommend a helmet. The rock is shedding like a rutting buck and there are tourons galore at the top of the cliff enjoying the parkway scenic overlook.

meh - while I wouldn't go out of my way to climb here for those who live nearby it is a great place to get on the rock and get a little exposure
