I am a recent RN graduate and am looking for a place to move. I would like to live near a big city in order to work in a larger hospital. What are some good areas near big cities with good climbing near by? Biking and snowboarding would be an added benefit.

Asheville, NC
It's on the smaller side, but is the only thing going for hospitals over a pretty large area, so its hospitals are much bigger than for just a city that size - significant enough hospitals that UNC School of Medicine has an option to do the entire 3rd year there. Awesome climbing and mountain biking just outside of town. Snowboarding sucks, though.
Small city feel, lots of unique, local culture, and none of the hassles of a metro area.

Vancouver BC
Squamish within an hour
whistler in 1 1/2
the north shore of Vancouver is the best place in the world to ride bikes
I'm pretty sure theres a shortage of hospital workers here too i could be wrong though

Albany NY, Albany med, it's a teaching hospital. Albany is also like 2 hours from the gunks 2 hours from the Daks. There is good ice climbing in the Heldeburgs(spelling?) which are 1 hour away and there is a lot of ski/snowboarding hills within 4 hours Killington, Gore, Mt. Snow, Jiminey peak, Bosque.. just to name a few and tons and tons of mountain biking. There is also a couple of really good gyms in the area for week day training or when the weather is bad.

Flagstaff, AZ although not necessarily a "big city" has the referral center for Northern Arizona and is a relatively large hospital for the size of the town. The climbing and biking is extensive and the snowboarding is pretty good.
Tucson, AZ would be another good option.

the powder - well you should know.
climbing - it rocks especially if you can drive a couple hours (yose, eastern sierras) can be year round too.
biking - road, mtn, dirt. its all there. also year round.

I like SLC too, but the mormons drive me nuts. Stopping me on the street to talk about stuff. Trying to get me to join thier church. They seem too nice, in a wierd sort of way.

I figured it's one of those sort of places that if you want to know more about the church, well, you know where to look. Easiest way to get them off your back though, tell them that you're up from Provo and you're in 7th ward.  I'll remember that line...
