So, I am considering driving down to RRG from Chicago at the end of December/early january, how is the weather, is it worth it ? Or should we try somewhere else, if so any ideas where ?

I've been climbing at the Red over the last few days. It's cold outside, but not bad for climbing. You'll need a coat while belaying and the hands go a little numb during the first pitch or two. As long as you can avoid the snow/rain/snow-rain you should be able to hack the temperatures. When it snows you can get water leaking and icecikles falling for days afterward. It does get well below freezing at night so if you're camping, be prepared. However, the conditions are becoming progressively less climber-friendly, so hurry!

Tennessee Wall is where it's at in the winter.
