I don't know what to say about this. Just a couple of very lucky people on a hill side. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=c90_1262743643

Not really "near death" by my reckoning. Just a couple of people who should always use condoms, you know, so there is no procreation taking place.

i just can't get over how dumb these people are. 1) climbing one above the other 2) no "Rooockk!!!" yell 3) not paying attention to footing 4) helmet? 5) spotting? probably a better idea than holding a camera 6) is this even supposed to be a trail (or a erosion gully made worse by people fooling around) 7) maybe it would be smarter for him to yell "Are you OK? Do you need any help?" (you see how the big rock almost crushed her leg) but instead he yells "wow!!! WOW!!! Wooooowwwww!!!1!!!1111!!!!!" any others i missed?

I watched it a few times. More reason to pay attention to what you are doing and not the chick's panty lines.

few things... They aren't climbing, they are walking. probably scrambling would be the best way to describe it. Something I typically wouldn't wear a helmet for. Besides climbers, who else knows to yell "rock"? Though it is common sense to let people know, if this isn't a pair of climbers, this may be the first trundled boulder they have come across. they are on a low angled slope somewhere in the southwest, probably Utah, reminds me of Zion. If you've never accidentally had a boulder fall out from under you before, you probably aren't climbing in the right places

I've worn a helmet while hiking, think like talus fields, or anywhere where you could slip and slide. Nothing to be ashamed of... i think

But this brings up an interesting and sad point. Why do the majority of backpackers think that trundling is a cool and fun thing to do in the mountains??? Backpacker magazine really needs to write a long article on this subject and educate some peeps.

Backpacker magazine really needs to write a long article on this subject and educate some peeps. Like many things that are incredibly dangerous and destructive, trundling IS fun. Just make absolutely sure that you are alone don't do it. Shit happens when you're scrambling choss. They'll be a little more cautious next time. When I went up Mt. Temple in Lake Louise in '96 there were a bunch of us on our first big scramble. We left at midnight to try and hit the peak as sunrise. On the way up one of the gullies someone let a big rock go. Luckily we were wearing helmets as it hit one girl right on the bean. Knocked her headlamp off and for a second she was yelling "I can't see!". Once we figured it out we had a little chuckle and proceeded one at a time through anything that would funnel debris.

best part of the video are the first words that come out of his mouth. "check out the down climb" I don't think that typical hiking up & down would have dislodged the boulder but she was moving with some force when she hit it & that made it sluff out.

I might be more judgmental if I didn't have some scars from a descent. This is from a slip after climbing at the Chapel Pond Slab in the Adirondacks. Sometimes shit happens.
