Camping I am not sure about...

Unfortunately, the stretch you will be driving is pretty devoid of good crags.
A little further south, and you would hit the Gunks. A little further north and you would hit the 'dacks.

Little Falls is just west of Albany.

Rose Ledges is a little bit of a detour, but not terrible.

Camping is all over the place.

little falls is like 2 miles off the 90 with a short approach if you're looking to get your rocks off real quick Tongue. Lots of camping in that area too.

??? Little Falls is right on the way - it's quite close to Albany, and the OP will go right through Albany.

I've climbed at Little Falls - the area called, I think, "The Dihedrals" or something like that is quite nice, if you don't mind the grime and the train going by.

Thanks everybody for the helpful and speedy feedback! Little Falls looks pretty close for sure, worth a small detour it seems... By the way, what does "the OP" mean in one of the last posts? Any feedback on rose ledges in MA... fun spot?

When I lived in New England, Rose Ledges was my home crag. It definitely has some classics. Rhino Dyno is a must do. The start is very tricky, and the dyno is really sweet. I'd like to know if you get it. Double Helix is also another gem.

Pretty sure the landowner of the dihedrals doesn't want climbing there anymore unfortunately

I must have lived in europe for too long.......I wouldn't call a detour of 1:20 each way "right on the way"Crazy
Albany -> Little Falls
Little Falls -> Saratoga

I grew up in the southern Adirondacks and went to school in Utica, where Little Falls was my "home turf" for climbing. So, I can also personally verify that Google Maps is correct time-wise, give or take half an hour. (just don't let the troopers catch you doing 100Tongue)

@Gabe, just saw your profile. You know the trip perfectly well.....guess I've just been in europe too longPirate

I now live in a place where in one particular direction the next state is 5.5 hrs away. A nearly 3 hr detour is only "right on the way" if you're doing a cross country 70hr trip.

Whoa! Okay, you're right, I'm wrong. I've only been to Little Falls once, and I clearly misremembered where it is. I didn't realize it's halfway between Albany and Syracuse! Thanks for the correction.

Cheers,

GO

No worries. A couple hour's extra drive to hit the Gunks might be worth it, but for little 'ol Little Falls, I thought Pete might be a bit dissapointed Laugh

Thanks a bunch everyone for the clarification... Seems that Rose Ledges is the closest... Always interested in incorporating some climbing into my roadtrips, but it seems that for a day, these spots might be a bit far... If I do make it there I will post feedback for you all. I will check ryno dyno, I have actually seen some photos of that climb.... THANKS! Independence Pass is about to open for the season! A great spot to spend weeks camping/climbing...

another option would be to drive north from Albany <1hour to the Lake George region. Tons of great climbing there.
