Hey guys - I am currently stuck in frigid cold Toronto and am looking for a break from this weather. I will be taking a road trip over Christmas and New Years where my ultimate destination will be South Florida to visit family - however I would like to stop along the way and do some climbing - can anyone recommend some good places to climb around this time of year and if anyone would like to meet up please let me know (I sport climb). Thanks for any help you can provide. Sincerely One Frozen Canadian [ This Message was edited by: hoppinbig on 2002-12-16 11:04 ]

Come to the Tennessee Wall around 12/27 and bask in the sun for a few days. There are going to be several of the people on this site there. See this thread: http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=21346&forum=11&37

Thanks Tradpuppy - looks like T-Wall is primarily trad - as I only climb sport - is there anyone out there interested in doing some sport climbing - perhaps at Foster Falls or South Clear Creek area of the Obed? Not only am I a funny guy but I am funny to look at too! [ This Message was edited by: hoppinbig on 2002-12-16 06:59 ]

Hey Hoppinbig, I can probably meet you on 12/27 or 28 at Sandrock,Al. I have read your bio, and I also sport at the high 11's/low 12's. Sandrock offers all levels of sport, and plenty of 11's and 12's.

Dude, this is the best time of the year for bouldering in the South. You have got to checkout HorsePens 40 and Rocktown. HorsePens 40 is in Alabama, and Rocktown is in Georgia. You can get topos and directions off of http://www.drtopo.com/index4.html Have a great Christmas Holiday! On your way down to the T-Wall or HP40, stop in at Seneca/Nelson. Check out ... http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=20624&forum=7

Seneca / Nelson may be icy and cold this time of year. It would be wise to place a call to the Gendarme or check weather beforehand: http://www.weather.com/weather/local/26884 Personally I prefer to climb down in North Carolina during the winter, but if you climb on the South Face at Seneca you should be okay, provided it's sunny and above freezing.

Stone Mt., NC is very good for winter climbing. It is mostly friction climbing so it may be different to what you are accustom.

When you come down make a stop at Rumbing Bald in NC. There is a lot of trad but there are some good sport routes too once you get up to 5.11d and up. I can't climb that hard but I can meet you and show you where they are.
