How long will they last in the hot sun and then freezing in winter?

With the impending death of your rich uncle, I really don't think you need to worry about it.

It depends.....

Not all holds are made of the same material. Most hold mfrs use polyurethane but some still use polyester resin. These are the most common materials but there are others. Some companies also use "fillers" to reduce the weight and cost of their holds. Your best bet is to contact the company that made the holds that you want to use outside and ask them.

PS-Nobody that I know of uses a truley colorfast dye so if your holds are brightly colored now, they won't stay that way for long out in the sun.

Too bad about the colors fading.. I guess it is a waste of time trying to mix and match the colors.

90% of mine are polyurethane. The rest are the resin type.

There is a UV resistant additive available for most polyurethanes... but it's expensive.

It'd be Cheaper (and better imho) to spend that $ on an shingled roof, awning, or something to keep it shaded and protected. Wink
