I'm going camping this weekend and would like to get a little bit of a work out with some friends on some local boulders at the same time. Really, a break from the Portland area routine just sounds nice. Anyone willing to share a few local secrets with someone who will be respectful of them? Thanks!

I don't know anything about it, but there are four users on here that will know quite a bit. Search out Chunk, Mikey, Mouth, and Data and ask them for beta. They know all the good boulders, especially the ones by the lighthouse and the old restaurant. It might be tempting to ask the Fratellis, but they will probably send you on a wild goose chase.

the best area's (I used to live in seaside/work in cannon beach) are south of cannon beach. the cove just to the north of hug point has some cool sandstone traverses, and a fun slab (easy v0) there are a couple of clusters of boulders that are fun, depending on how high the sand is on the beach, about half way between arcadia beach and arch cape. Park at arcadia, hike south on the beach about 3/4 mile. This was my favorite boulder (almost a perfect cube). on the east face there are three or four great routes, one straight up the center, one on the left roof, one on the right arete. the south face has a couple of fun traverses and really hard (v6/7+ climbs) If you park at the Mo's (south end of CB) and hike about 3/4-1 mile there are some cool, though crumbly and chossy, blocks and cliffs. Indian beach has really fun boulders all over the place, and a couple of fun short cliff sections (easy 5.3-7 @ 20-30', no rope really needed). Oswald west has some fun cliffs on the South end of the beach, lots of tree's for top rope potential. I always wanted to bolt two of the more obvious lines. Low tide climbing only. if you need something closer to astoria, the fort stevens offer some cool buildering at the bunkers/batteries. just dont get caught. also i heard rumors of boulders & cliffs at cape dissapointment (washington side), but never really explored it much. be careull of the rocks on the beaches, they are crumbly and chossy. good luck! have fun, enjoy the coast. I'm not in seaside any more, but feel free to pm me if you need better directions/betta.
