Hooray for you! That's awesome! Hardest thing that I ever did in my life was quit smoking. Good job!

I still smoke in my dreams sometime, and it's been 11 years since my last drag.

Hey Congrats Ryan! Good for you! Not only are you doing a great thing for your health, you're doing a great thing for you family.

AND, probably saving yourself $100-300 a month (Here in Mass a pack a day habit will set you back $8 or so every morning. More like $12 a day in NYC)

Thanks everyone, and congrats on all you other quitters.
I still have dreams of smoking and cravings, but nothing like when I "needed" a smoke.
It was relatively easy to actually quit once I realized I was ready. It's all mental. I quit cold turkey.

charley had told me that I'd know when I was ready, and he was right. I just knew I was ready to quit. Now I can tell Hines Ward that I'm a quitter. heh

Chad, I was about a half pack to 3/4 pack a day smoker. Sometimes more. Sometimes less. In college it was a lot more, maybe 2 packs sometimes. But, I smoked the cheapest ones there were, Jacks. When I started smoking, they were 80 cents a pack. That was in 1997-98. They were $3.31 when I quit. Not sure what they are now, but I figured out that even if I only had smoked half a pack a day I saved over $600 this last year, and that's if they're still $3.31 a pack. I haven't even been in where I used to buy them for a couple months even for coffee. I've stopped drinking as much coffee, too and have saved about $160 over the summer not buying coffee very much at all. Of course, I've been drinking more beer than normal so that's made up for the coffee and some of the cig money and about 15lbs heavier.

Still, I can actually play with the kids without getting winded so quickly, and can walk up the stairs without tiring out. I can walk 5 miles and think nothing of it. Run 3 miles in under 25 minutes. Something I couldn't do a year ago.

One year ago today:
Marked a year that I quit smoking.
And now it's been two years.
This is a thread I'm proud to resurrect.

In two years I've gone from having chest pains and coughing fits to running 3-5 miles regularly, finished a couple 5K's and completed P90X. I still don't have the lung capacity I used to, but my circulation is 1000 times better.

I'll never go back.

I hear ya on the lack of chest pain. Don't miss that part one bit.

1 year 7 months for me.... save for a couple cigars and as cheesy as it sounds, I didn't inhale!
Does that still count? I've been really good otherwise.

Whoa, wait a sec.... has it really been over a year and a half since I bought a pack of smokes?!
Damn!
WHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOO YYYYYEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Dude, that's great.
You've got a harder row to hoe. It's not easy, by any means. But, it does get easier.
Just takes time.

Keep it going man.

Edit: Holy crap I just realized that it also mean over 2 1/2 years for me! YA!
I hear ya on the almost forgetting you ever smoked, happens to me. Although I do have to admit that I REALLY wanted a smoke sitting in traffic/construction/getting tailgated/cut off/almost sideswiped on my way to work yesterday... Calgary traffic is hell for only 1 reason the drivers suck and less than 1% of them actually know how to use a road with more than one lane... let alone stay in there lane when it's reduced width. If my F250 can stay between the lines with a camper, your little VW sure as hell doesn't need more than one lane, oh that's right you were on your cell phone and drinking coffee at the same time Crazy [/rant]

Miss you Bill. Thanks for encouraging me to quit. Hope you're smiling down on us.
