Just got back from my first trip to California and visited the Sierras. While we were there we stopped in Lone Pine and did a couple of routes. It was my first time climbing outside and nothing beats poking my head over a peak and seeing the snow capped 14K mountains (including Whitney) while 3 stories up hanging on a rope.

Welcome..Now Go Home..just kidding, it's an old saying. Glad you had fun in this fine state. AH is a great place to climb  . Did you climb Shark Fin?

We did not do Shark Fin, I do not remember what/where we went instead. We were going to go the Fin on the last day but decided to tool around the area; so we went to Mono Lake and Schmidt's Tunnel both of which were amazing.

April 16-17. Actually all week.
I know, a long way off but, its Easter Week - spring break for my kids. We'll head up Friday the 15th in the afternoon. Get a site in Tuttle Creek.
We were up there last year, and did a lot of sight seeing, so the wife is jonesing to go again. I'm looking to climb this time, and my best bet to find partners will be over the weekend. We'll also be doing some off roading/ghost towns/mines/snow play that week. Really I'm free to climb anytime during the week, but we have other things we want to do to.
So if you, or anyone, wants to join us for any part of the fun, let me know. The date is far off, but thats were we're at.

Nice! I spent a few hours climbing at the Alabama Hills the day before I did the East Face on Whitney. Really neat area, tons of routes, no crowds, great views. What more could you want?

I've been there before , It was a pretty nice place.
Still might choice Tuolumne Meadows, or Lovers Leap over Alabama Hills but to each their own.

The Hills is a fun place. It's kind of a mini Joshua Tree for sport climbers. I put up a bunch of routes out there about 10 years ago with Raliegh Collins. Definitely worth a visit.

Oh yeah it was awesome for my first outside climb. I'm already planning on going back out there and meeting my sister in Vegas and driving to Zion.

SoCal, what formations did you put routes up on. Maybe I'll jump on one. (if its not too hard... eh?)

Well, I would not worry that much. We rap bolted, with TR first, all the routes I did. I need to look at the guide book and see what they were. It was pretty earlier on when Strausmen and Collins were putting up routes.
After the guide book came out I found my name was left off a bunch of stuff and I only got credit for a few. So it goes. I was annoyed at the time, but could really care less now.
Regardless, fun place to blow a couple of days before heading off to bigger and better things.
