I have heard rumors that a lot of the rock in this area has been closed until 2014 due to nesting raptors. Does anyone here have any info about this? I was planning a trip to the area but if there is no open climbing to be had I will go elsewhere.

http://carolinaclimbers.org/closures

"The Forest Service has lifted the closures on Whiteside, Looking Glass, Victory Wall, Shortoff, NC Wall and Big Lost Cove Cliff. The only Peregrine closure still in effect is for White Rock Cliff."

Unless somebody knows something the CCC doesn't, I'd say it is an unfounded rumor.

That is crazy! No such thing is happening in Linville. The raptor closures are annual, but only seasonal. Jan. 15 to Aug. 15, unless no nesting, then they open early. Just about everything in N.C. that has raptor closures are currently open. So get out and climb!

Yep, as far as I know, that is not true. In fact, Linville is pretty free of access issues when compared to other NC areas that have been or still are closed.
