The best part is when he tops out and about 20 feet of rope follows him up. Josh

at 1:38 he is hanging on the top rope and you can see it! at 1:42 you get another shot of the top rope.
blueeyedclimber wrote: The best part is when he tops out and about 20 feet of rope follows him up. Josh wow. i didnt even notice that until i put it into hd, but that is funny! he gets to the top and his "lead" rope is just a tail...

I agree with Sungam if he's not being facetious. Great commercial, motivating actually. But I like how some of you want to bash on him because he's doing what he does best, look pretty on camera and pretend like he knows what he's doing. And just for giggles, I think it would be awesome if Bear had an account on RC, came to this thread and talked down all of the limitations they put on him for insurance reasons, not actually letting him climb the rock and so on. I honestly can't get myself to believe that Bear is afraid of climbing some rock. We're not superheroes, it doesn't take an elitist to enjoy climbing.

I thought that was obvious; the guy in the video. He makes ugly clothes and some gimmicky junk - I get his catalog in the mail.

Things I noted: 0:59 looks like he's tied in through opposing wiregate biners 1:00 looks like he's forgotten how to tie in correctly, either still in the biners, or through the belay loop The #2 camalot shown is brand new. There's a few parts where you can see the black toprope above him. The question is why the hell you'd not use rock shoes for that.

So if I can start "fakeclimbing" I can become a millionaire? How does one start fakeclimbing? Do I need gear like a harness and a rope? What about shoes? Where do I get the ones like in the video?

I'd probably wear approach shoes on a 3 pitch 5.9, mostly for the 1 pitch of aid. http://www.mountainproject.com/v/rigor-mortis/105718033

Whenever I climb in Arches Nat'l Park, I like to run to the base of the climbs, (off trail- crushing the cryptobiotic soil), while wearing some kind of unknown "sports clothing." Then I like to free solo routes on aid towers with two different 20 ft lengths of rope, no belayer, and wearing hiking boots. And I also like to inspire people to use a certain brand or product while narrating to them just how awesome I am! Me and Bear are homies. Everything I learned about pretending to be a rock climber, I learned from him!

Colinhoglund wrote: How does one start fakeclimbing? I think you first need to gain a strong history with the SAS and be the youngest person to summit Mount Everest. Then you keep yourself hydrated with dirty water via a tube shoved up your asshole and drinking your piss on TV. I think it's cheesy that he's climbing but seriously, I thought the video was awesome. I guess the way I feel about Bear Grylls is that if someone is going to be pretending to do badass stuff and be making millions off of it, I would prefer if it was someone who had actually done bad-ass stuff. Of course he's no Ray Mears, but then who is?

The video was obviously over the top hollywood style. He definitely seems to be becoming more and more of a sell out. However, i'd definitely say the guy knows what he's doing... SAS, Everest @ 23yrs old?
