Hey all,
I have been working on opening a climbing gym for about two years now and things finally seem to be falling into place with funding. The gym is to be located in a small college town with a year round population of 20,000 and a student population of just over 10,000. A decently sized climbing population that's constantly growing and a fair amount of outdoor climbing areas given its location. There are a few kinks that I need to work out. I'm hoping somebody who opened a gym themselves will be able to help me out.
1. Insurance. My provider has offered several options and they vary widely in terms of price. Could you explain to me your coverage and the rough annual cost.
And 2. Any other crucial advice you can throw my way before I throw the down payment for the building down in August would be greatly appreciated. What an exciting investment. Climb on.

Did you hover over "about us" and then hover over "Make a Slo Op of your own"? Strange navigation, but that gets you to some resources.

It's not my gym, but they absolutely do. Membership was up to about 850 people as of a couple of months ago. They just expanded the gym size by about 50% as a result.

Yes, I went over the the about us and read the answers, again, they didn't give much advice. Just answers that sound like advice.
On a separate note, I do like the goal of the gym and the business model.
850 members paying 35 bucks a month, that's roughly 30,000 a month coming in for a bouldering gym. Add that they are non-profit so they are taxed differently, and you have some nice salaries happening to some people their. Again, I like the business model.
Yes, I know that the 30,000 is before their cost of operation. Still, should give people a good idea of whether a climbing gym is a business of a lifestyle choice.
