what gear for Bristol Avon Gorge?

Hi all,

I'm just in the process of compiling some gear.
Has anyone got experience of top roping the easier climbs on the right side of the Avon gorge crag (underneath Clifton Downs)

What are the anchor points like?
Will I need loads of slings to keep the rope of the cliff edge?

And will a 30m rope do the job? Or is that a bit short?

Thanks for your help!
J

This sounds like a crag in England -- I'd suggest asking on ukclimbing.com where you're far more likely to find climbers who know that crag.

It is indeed in southern England, it was my local crag in my youth.
Toproping there is a crap idea, it was already polished 40 years ago so no need to make it worse. The gorge is 50m high anyway.

UKclimbing.com for sure, I've climbed there too, it''s defo England. This is more for Canada and US.
Standard size rope nothing shorter. Who on earth climbs with shorter ropes?

If I was climbing regularly at somewhere like Harrison's Rocks (southern England), where a long route is 10m, then I'd be very tempted to just bring a 30m rope and save on weight.

Assuming you mean the sea walls, there are bolts near the top. Abseil from the large tree to reach the bolts.
