I never wear rings while climbing, i mean my hands get torn up enough let alone throwing some metal bands into the scheme of things.

Sometimes i'll wear an outdoor watch, unless crack climbing.

Plus, i also wear numerous small hoop earrings that are stainless steel body jewelry, a nose stud, labret stub and usually a necklace. These items i wear all the time...to bed, in the shower, etc.

i have not had a problem as of yet where my accessories have gotten in the way.

My wedding ring comes off before I even consider climbing. I keep it in the wee zipper pocket on my chalkbag, so I have it with me even though I'm not wearing it.

As a matter of fact, most of the time, the poor thing just rides around *with* me, as opposed to ON me.

Kate

PS Now that I've revealed my little secret, please don't steal my chalkbag....

When I climb I wear the same amount of jewelry that I wear on a daily basis. Three pairs of earings. Outside of climbing I will sometimes wear rings, necklaces, bracelets, watches...but it is not the norm for me. I don't think a necklace would bother me, but I would never wear rings on my fingers.

If anyone wants to see a picture that will convince you to never even think about wearing a ring when climbing, I can post it.

I just put my rings on a chain around my neck while climbing. I don't have a fear of losing them that way, and I still feel like I'm wearing them.

I once dropped a ring off a small cliff, and somehow found it on my way out (dented and scratched, but wearable). Since then, the jewelry comes off before I even get out of the car.

I can't climb with anything in my way, and even got contact lenses just for the purpose of climbing. I just can't do it with glasses on! Chalk and dust in the eyes are my new obstacle!

uhm, please don't post the picture until after I've had more coffee, k?

I don't wear rings normally, but have considered the concequences of wearing my girly bracelets and leave them at home. I have an ear bar I wear that I don't want to take out, even though at the worst possible moments, the rope catches on it or my hair. Speaking of girly, sometimes I wear my 'climbing earrings' (pretty little things). I wouldn't be heart broken if I lost them and if my lobe gets ripped, well, its soft tissue, it will heal.

That's how I feel about my belly-bar. It will hurt like hell if it ever gets snagged, but I won't become handicapped over it.

I stopped wearing jewelry when I started climbing. I'm one of those people that forgets it's on, so I had to stop putting it on.

I remember wearing my wedding ring while climbing right after I got it. About six months later the wife and I went by the jewelers (friend of the family) and while waiting for her rings to be cleaned, the jeweler came back with mine and basically said it wasn't worth cleaning. It was so chipped and dented it was basically a squared off piece of mush. His comment was "it's obvious he never takes it off". After that I took it off while climbing and now I can't even put it on because my knuckles swelled up too much from the years of abuse. Now I only wear two pieces of jewelry; a necklace my wife gave to me, and an anklet my daughter gave - both to provide "good juju" and to remind me of them whenever I'm away on a climbing trip.

I saw the same pictures shakylegs saw. I don't wear rings any more. I want to keep my finger. I do wear my cross necklace (I figure that would break before it would threaten to hurt me) but other than that I stay away from the jewelry. I'm starting to even take off my watch when I'm crack climbing (it made it harder to hand jam a few times)

I always lose jewlary so I tend to avoid wearing it. I do wear a necklace on a regular basis, just a pendant tied close to my neck. It has never really gotten in the way, but I don't like to wear it with bike jerseys that have a slightly higher neck.

I'll be getting my Iron ring soon, I don't know how often I'll wear that, but probably never when climbing.

I prefer to wear contact when doing any activity, the glasses I have tend to slide off my face and it only took once of having them fall off at the end of a climb for me to avoid wearing them.

I'll wear earrings while I'm climbing, especially if I have a helmet on, I don't know, for some reason I feel more feminine with at least some jewelry on, but rings when I'm climbing? No way. Besides the whole threat of a ring evulsion, I like my rings too much to get them all scratched up! I have a toe ring that I love that I use to always take off because my climbing shoes squished my toes so much that it hurt to wear it, but now that my shoes have stretched some, I keep it on. I've already lost two of them from taking them off to climb.

Somebody else has posted a picture of what can happen when you wear rings when climbing. I think it's over in the Accidents & Injuries. I looked at it. Pretty darn gross.

I made the mistake of climbing with my ring on once! ohhhh the blistery nasty things that happened! Now I make sure I leave the wedding ring off...and I also fine that my hands get pumped up and a bit swollen after climbing... so the ring tends to be too tight to put on right afterwards as well.

No jewelry for me while climbing - that just makes me cringe thinking of a finger EXPLODING.

Okay........that's just sick!! Wish I knew how to do a puking smilie........ Ya, the only jewelery I ever wear is a Timex watch, and hemp bracelet, anklet, and necklace, and none of that has gotten in the way so far........But make sure to tie your hair back!! I was rapping on a slab the other day, and, surprise surprise, my hair was down (having forgotten an elastic), and got caught in my ATC!!!! I tried to yank it out, *grunt grunt*, but that didn't work. At that point I kinda started freakin' out, cuz I had read stories here on rc.com about peeps having to get their hair chopped off, but I wasn't about to let that happen to me!! So I just planted my feet, and kinda did this awkward dyno thingy upwards, and yanked rope through the rappel device at the same time. Luckily, it worked, and I got my hair out!! For the rest of the way down, I leaned backwards, and kept myself as far away from the ATC as possible!! Whew, a near miss! Now, if that had happened on an overhang...............

I wear no jewelry when climbing, except for my tiny, tiny stud earrings and my n. rings (and they are covered by my top anyway). My hair is kind of short so I just clip the top back.

ok, i know im not a lady, so maybe this don't fit in here but anyway. never never never never infinity will i wear a ring again. I still wear a couple, one of them my ex fiances ring.(im pathetic i know) but the other one i wear, well its kinda sharp. first time i went climbing, i forgot i had it on. remember that fancy avulsion injury? well, mine didn't take my finger completely off, but it cut down to the bone up to the middle joint. i had to pull it back out. now even when im on my training board, my rings go in a black pouch on my cross neckchain thingy, and stay in there for a couple hours after. if anybody that reads this does any mountaineering, take em off for that too...its the shits having to cut off a ring from frostbite. i'm learning the hard way about rings...but i think i figgered it out. as for nipple rings, bellybutton rings and earrings, i can't help ya there

I usually only wear a watch and no other jewlery. I went climbing today and forgot to take my watch off. i was climbing up and fell, my arm hit into the wall and my watch slammedin as well, flew off and crashed on the ground. When i went back down to see it the face (not sure if its the right word but the glass covering) had shattered and it wasnt ticking. I've stopped wearing a watch now so that doesnt happen again.
