Everything you need to know about aid climbing can be found through the input and advice from the users of this forum. And sometimes we even agree on stuff. The * INDEX TO DR. PITON STUFF * is a great starting point. Pete has put a lot of effort into answering some of the basic and advanced questions you may have as an aid climber. Feel free to ask questions. There are a number of esteemed wall climbers who contribute regularly. Ed

While I completely agree that the Index to Dr. Piton Stuff is an invaluable resource, I wouldn't characterize it as the "basics." I would recommend reading "Big Walls!" by John Long & John Middendorf (try Amazon) for the real basics, moving up, when to clip the rope, the standard gear, etc. Some of it is a little outdated (some people may disagree), but it explains the details in a well organized way. *Then* take a look at the Index, for more advanced techniques (especially cleaning and hauling) and gear recommendations. Also, I was lucky enough to take a class at the gym I go to (Pacific Edge, Santa Cruz CA). The gym owner is an experienced wall climber, including solos of El Cap, and actually getting to practice was really good. If you can find a class, go for it. Cheers, Anna (Go ahead and flame me now)

(done in my best "Family Feud" impersonation) "Good answer; good answer!" No flames here; I'd agree with valygrl.
