So I decided I want to whip the center of my rope with floss, but I have no clue how to do it. Anyone got a website that explains it? Or can someone who has done it fill me in? Thanks.

Thanks for the advice, but I have a dark colored rope. I would not be able to see it well. Also, I sometimes stretch my climbs after dark, so I figured white floss might be easier to see.

If you can't find it on the internet, go to a library and find an old Boy Scout book. Back in the days of manila rope, you had to whip the ends to keep it from fraying. Or do this: Lay a long, thin U-shaped loop along the length of the rope at the middle. Wrap the long end of the floss around the short end once, then start winding (really tightly) around the rope, working toward the loop (away from the free end). When you are almost out of floss, put the end through the loop, and pull the other end to tighten. Then, grab both ends and pull straight out. If you do it right, you will pull the loops at each end back under all the windings, to lock it all in place. Oh, and you can't feel the middle of the bi-color ropes in the dark. I got a needle and thread and sort of sewed it in and out loosely through the sheath at the middle point round and round. It hasn't failed yet, but is getting sort of hairy. Often you can feel the bicolor rope change in the dark, (I keep feeling them, but then look for what it is and see the pattern change)

What are you guy's thoughts about threading the floss through the sheath of the rope to keep the whip in place? It seems to me like that would be perfectly safe, becuase it wouldn't affect the core. What are your thoughts?
