Kids, here's the poop straight from the PR Manager at The North Face. Hi Kate: Your email was passed along to me from our parent company, VF Corporation. Thank you for your concern and for contacting us to learn the truth about our relationship with Lynn Hill. Lynn Hill has been associated with The North Face for the past seven years, as a valued employee for the past three years and prior to that as an integral member of The North Face Athlete team. Her employment contract expired with The North Face in December 2001. Since that time, The North Face management has been in continuing negotiations with Lynn to come to a mutually satisfactory and ongoing relationship. We are greatly saddened by a spreading rumor falsely implying that The North Face ended its relationship with Lynn because of her pregnancy. The North Face did not let Lynn go; her contract expired. We congratulate Lynn on her pregnancy and hope to continue working with her in the future. I am sorry for the confusion and concern this rumor may have caused. I hope you might pass this information on to any one else who may be concerned. Thank you. Take care, Jill ====================== Jill A. Pagliaro Public Relations Manager The North Face

I am SO GLAD you cleared that up for us. Rumor has it, it's Adam Stack's lovechild.

Katydid/Jill: Good work figuring out the truth. While I don't like the NF much myself for other reasons, it was pretty lame to have all those people spouting "boycott" over a stupid rumor.

LOL... what else do you expect TNF to say? I'd take Lynn's word over TNF any day, personally. And I stand behind my boycott. It's the beauty of living in a free country...you can do whatever you personally feel is the right thing to do. Thanks Kate for contacting them. At least they know what the word is. Edited cause I can't spell today. [ This Message was edited by: sunsation on 2003-02-13 09:34 ]

She's in the pro section of the site. Does that mean that she is a member? If so, could an admin person send her an e-mail or something and see what she has to say? Josh [ This Message was edited by: bandycoot on 2003-02-13 11:11 ]

Her contract expired 13 months ago and they still hadn't been able to come to a new agreement? She needs a new manager or North Face needs a better PR department.

I have to think that the 2001 date is a type-o since her image is still on their website. Regardless of the facts (though PR people are known to have an aversion to the truth), TNF is foolish not to do whatever it takes in order keep Lynn on board. ESPECIALLY as her belly grows. They will be missing out on some very powerful emotional appeal! Besides, as it has been said, pregnancy doesn't have to sideline her. Even I climbed when I was pregnant! I can't imagine she's going to sit out for any great length of time. edit: speaking of type-o's... [ This Message was edited by: lynne on 2003-02-13 14:51 ]

I doubt the "2001" is a typo. It is not unreasonable for a 13 month negotiation/extension. What is unreasonable is the statement above that it is foolish for TNF to do "whatever it takes" to keep Lynn on the payroll. Do you know what it takes? TNF is in the biz to make money not sponsor people. Also, it is funny how everyone jumps on the rumor bandwagon. Boycotts? LOL! Having said all that, I do agree that it seems like an opportunity lost for TNF to sponsor a mom.

Quote.. "Her contract expired 13 months ago and they still hadn't been able to come to a new agreement?" If that is the case, it was not because of her pregnency, thats for sure. Thanks for the rumor control post! Bob

Rumor has it that a group of Brazillian eugenicists with German accents were in Yosemite and Bishop last summer offering top male climbers large amounts of cash for just "a few minutes of their time."
