I watched an inspiring movie last night about Alan Steck's ascent of the East Face and all the while I was not only thinking about what an amazing individual Steck is but how much the valley beckons!!!! Have a great time. Wish I could go!

Edited to correct my AWFUL spelling.

It was one of those Anyplace Wild videos. I picked it up at the library. I think it was filmed a few years ago. He, at age 74 reclimbed the east face route that he established many, many years ago. It was so inspiring to see a man at age 74 still climbing and doing it well.

Go get 'em V-Grl! Hope you don't freeze your a$$ off. You and Tracy ought to hook up for an all-chick wall team this year. Talk about inspirational -- two big wall aspirants showing us knuckle-draggers how it's done. I'd be honored to be part of the support team. ;-)

Or, if you want to make it an all-physical-therapy-chick team, hook up with Melissa! :D

What's the weekend adgenda?

Will you be on the team if she climbs one with me? I've got high hopes for Team Gimp too.

Excellent! Maybe we can get sponsored by a physical therapist or something...

My agenda is easy crack climbing, scoping the lines on El Cap that I'm going to climb this year, and if I'm really lucky, scoring an aid belay and trying out my new russian aiders.

about an hour til blast off...

Heck, I'd follow the three of you anywhere but I'm not qualified for team gimp just yet. Got a torn meniscus I've been nursing for about three years, though, so I'll be a prime candidate eventually. Good to hear the recovery is going well for both of you!

PT sponsorship....I like the way you're thinking. I say that we try to get our surgeons to pay for all the rest of our medical bills in exchange for us gracing them with autographed summit shots for their offices.

Schedule the climb in June, ladies, and I guarantee me and the boys will help with the pig wrestling to the base of whatever you want to climb. As long as it's not Half Dome...

Probably even meet you on the summit for victory photos so you can fulfill your sponsorship obiligations. I hope you guys set a date for this -- very cool idea.

Hi Tracy, sounds like a plan, lets chat via PM's.

Abbreviated trip report:

Went up on friday night, with a good friend and a bunch of his buddies. 1 serious climber, 1 intermediate, 1 gym climber, and 2 non climbers.

It was cold on Saturday morning, so we hiked up Tenaya Canyon a ways, starting up the Mt. Watkins approach trail. There's lots of snow in the high country, it was absolutely gorgeous.

In the afternoon, after the obligatory Degnan's stop, we went to Churchbowl. Tony lead Pole Position and everybody TR'd that or Churchbowl Lieback or Uncle Fanny, and I finally got a chance to bust out the new Russian Aiders that I got right after the shoulder surgery. Dang, those things are good! I aided Churchbowl Tree, and used probably 2/3's the number of placements that I have in the past in ladder aiders. It was easy, and I top-ringed a bunch of times.

Sunday, some of the folks found it a little difficult to get out of bed - tequila? port? jack? ?? - so me and my friend and one of the non-climbers headed over to the falls area. We did a cool 5.8 handcrack, then over to Jamcrack where there was NO ONE THERE - winter in the valley is a beautiful thing. So we monopolized the crag, I did Jamcrack, and we set up one TR on the upper pitch and one on the lower, and we all had a good ol' time. That ledge is one of my favorite places - it's so sunny, we basked in tank tops, looking straight over at a snow capped Half Dome one way, and the scary shady steep Sentinal the other.

Ended the day with the El Cap lieback. I swear it got bigger in the last couple of months.

Happy climbing!

Attagirl! Obviously you "get it" when it comes to standing tall in the saddle, and really stretching out those placements.

Amazing, eh? You, uh, like have my attention, eh?

As for El Cap, it could be closer than you think, though no less small.......
