Climbers and inhabitants of the world's tallest mountain will be able to surf the web when an internet café opens on the slopes of Mt Everest in March, the Ananova news service reported.
Tsering Gyaltsen Sherpa, 32, the grandson of Sherpa Tensing, will open the high-tech café at the Khumbu glacier at an altitude of 5,300 metres.
Nepalese native Sherpa Tensing and New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary were the first people to reach the summit of the 8,850 metre high mountain in 1953. This year marks the 50th anniversary of that achievement.
The already expensive costs of an expedition to Everest, about $120,000 on average, will increase by about $2,000 for use of the café's transmitter.
