Sunday night, driving back from a killer road trip. Where do you stop to satisfy those munchies? None of that drive-thru or mini-mart cuisine cuz you KNOW you deserve better. What do you treat yourself to?

Dress code? Yeah, right! Gotta have big booths and plenty of cooking smells to cover that two day funk you're wearing...

What's your pick, where and why?

Warning: If I happen to stop by one of your picks and it ain't sittin' too good, I'm coming to YOUR house to use YOUR bathroom...and I won't wash!

Anna's Taqueria in Porter Square, Cambridge. There is no other option. An amazing burrito and a coke for $5. You just can't beat that. Oh, and they don't care how bad you smell.

OUTBACK Steakhouse

That way you have a choice of a huge bloody steak or a huge Cesear salad. Whatever floats your boat.

And to wash it all down, you can have a honkin big Fosters.

Being that I'm driving back from a weekend roadtrip, chances are I'm on teh interstate and hurrying to get back. The drive-thru (Krystal Burger rocks) and mini-mart places were crossed off my list by the original poster.

So that leave mostly chains that are real near interstate exits.

In reply to:
Isn't that a CHAIN????????????!!

Yeah, and your point is? Not all chains are bad (Walmart is bad  ...been months since I went there and I'm hoping to make it years before I go back)

In reply to:
Support the LOCAL FLAVA

I hate to tell you but the large majority of the United States doesn't have a local flavor.

Unless you call "country cooking" a local flavor (what the fudge is chicken fried chicken anyways!?!?!?)

Outside of my hometown of New Orleans, most food in most communities sucks. Good seafood near [insert name of local crag]? Yeah right. No one flavors food as good as New Orleans/South Louisiana cusine. Unless salt & pepper are your favorite seasonings.

In reply to:
people can go to chains ANYTIME. Road trips are about experiencing NEW things that are unique to the area.

Roadtrips are also times I don't like wasting my time or my money in some strange town. Give me a 20 pack of McDonalds nuggest and let me eat them in my truck while driving.

Hope you understand any harsh tones that appear in this message are were placed there purely in response to your rustle. :D Have fun and tell your buck toothed waitress (at that local flava place) hi for me.

And my contribution of a local place to eat.....

If you are in Chattanooga (tennessee wall, foster falls, etc) then this was a great pizza place to eat. Kinda a hippy-chick place but the beer was great (if not pricy) and the calzones and lasanga were awesome.

Lupi's Pizza Pies Inc
406 Broad St # A
Chattanooga, TN
423-266-5874

I had the lasanga and I got to enjoy it until we got back to camp at Twall. The ride down the twisty/hilly road to get to the Twall trailhead did my stomache in and I lost the lasanga right there in the road (don't slip).

Also....this place had cheap beer ($1 PBR). We didn't eat there, just drank.

Pisa Pizza
551 River St
Chattanooga, TN
423-756-7492

One of my favorites is that all you can Thai place right outside of J-Tree. I wish I could remember the name of the place, but maybe some of you locals, or non, know what I'm talking about. That place is always one of the highlights after a hard days o' cranking at the Tree.

Winter roadtrips to Sinks Canyon in Lander, WY, necessitate stops at the Lander Bar and Grill. Killer pizzas and about the only place worth eating in Lander (that a dirty bum can afford anyway). Anyone else been here?

Crossroads Cafe in Joshua Tree has my vote. The staff frequently out-funks the clientel (this is Joshua Tree, and the staff are climbers after all), but the food rocks.

And daisyfay, you've got a lot to learn about flaming. Brush up on rec.climbing. "stfu noob 1111111111" is about as uncreative, uninspiring, and unoriginal as it gets, no offense. It does, however, smack of a bouldering (or is that 'boldering') forum.

That's the Howe Sound Brewery? Excellent brew, great view. Some good climbing too, when the sun shines through.

TRIPLE E BARBECUE!!

Best place to eat in Southern Illinois is obviously Triple E Barbecue, it's got the best smoked porkchops or ribs ever, all of this on top of the fact that it's the least formal restaurant I have ever been to.

If on "The East Side" of the Sierra's, check out the "Restaurant at Convict Lake". Rigth at the base of Mt Morrison and the approach to Red Slate Coulior. Talk about good food and drinks after a day in the mountains! This place should be on everyone's Eastside checklist.

For me it's Cracker Barrel - they are located at just about every exit off any interstate - you get tons of food for a good price - and the gift shop always has cool toys to play with!

Just my vote....

Well if you are in Phoenix, I have to add that the best burgers and fries can be found at Lucky Boy, 16th St and Osborn Rd. Large, cheap, freshly grilled burgers that come with fries. Oh and the shakes and fresh lemon-aid are excellent.
