A couple friends and I will be representing Iowa during a week of climbing at the Red. I know that we can get guidebooks or meet people at Miguel's, but I wanted to give a RC.com shout out to see if anyone would be down there during those dates and would want to hook up with us. We'll be working in the 5.10-12 range, but we'd get on anything. Anyway, feel free to respond or pm, and if you see Iowa plates at Miguel's, feel free to say hi and have a beer with us.

I'm just along for the ride and don't really know what the plans are, but I'll be down there 24-26. I'm from Bettendorf originally and it's nice to see Iowa representing! I see you're from Iowa City, are you still in school?

What is it that the great state of Iowa will be representing? Will there be elected representatives there? That could be good for the access issues. Getting elected officials aware of the threatened access at the Red is a positive move toward a bright climbing future. No climbing area closation without representation. Represent fellows.

Wait a minute. I think you guys are talking about a different kind of representing. You mean the kind that those rap guys talk about in their hop-hip songs. You will represent Iowa's honor just as if there was a turf war for drug dealing rights and you held your block's dignity on your shoulders. My advice is to send hard because Iowa's reputation as a bastion for hardmen is riding on your representation. Word.

I'm a Grinnell grad, but my friends are still at the U. It's funny the previous poster mused on dual colloquial meanings of "represent", as our time there will be bisected into two disparate fronts: one, as sanctioned legislative representatives, to strengthen diplomatic bonds at the state level, and two, as henchmen for local drug kingpins, looking to solidify our grip on midwest drug trafficking and Iowa's rightful place at the forefront of gangsta rap. Frankly, I hope we hardmen (and women--there's a female with us who pulls _hard_) even have time to climb.

word, indeed.

Hmmm, I wonder which side I should take on the turf war.

How many of you are going? Are you all from Iowa?

Last night my plans changed and now I'm going with a different group - 3 from Chicago and the rest from Indiana. As long as I make it down I'll be happy.

Three for sure, and perhaps a fourth, all from Iowa.
If, for some reason, you need a ride (and can take the whole week off) we're driving on Monday.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm stuck at work that week. Just switched jobs in January and I don't have enough vacation time - I did a 4-day weekend up at the lake a couple weeks ago and now I only have 8 vacation hours. But it was a great trip!

I'll keep an eye out for those Iowa plates :D

I'm sure no one will be there Memorial Day weekend  I can't wait to get down there! It's worth the crowd!

I'm heading to Devils Lake tonight for a little climbing tomorrow.
