Ok, I'm out in the woods approaching the bouldering area and I hear someone grunting like a mad bull. I reach my destination and what do I see? A dude is bouldering by himself with full hockey pads on (minus helmet) Now, its Alaska so its not too hot out but man, the extra weight? So, I can't help myself, I'm laughing like a dang hyena and the guy just stands there looking at me.. I say, "there must be an explaination!" He says "I've got the gear and I wanted to try bouldering but I don't have a crash pad or anyone to come out with so I figured this would work" Yeah, it worked, he took some ugly falls and bounced right back up! I guess the extra weight will make him ultra burly once he decides to ditch it!

If it was goalie gear, it'd be heavy. Wonder how the gloves would work jammed in--sure protect your knuckles! I think the safest would be to boulder in one of those training suits they put on the guys for the womens self defense classes... Or maybe a sumo-suit, tho I wonder if it would still be a flash if you peeled, then bounced back up to that same point, and sent the problem without putting your feet down... -p

thats great! LOL I wonder if someone ever tried climbing in the bear suit? you could like free solo something 100s of feet fall off and probably still be fine! Have u guys seen the footage of them testing the suit? Being hit by a Mack Truck at like 70km/h

Here's what you need... A red man suit: http://www.bushidocanada.com/products/redman.htm http://dancastrosansoo.homestead.com/redman.html For hard core, you could use an Ursus Mark VII suit. (Check out the video clip.) http://www.nfb.ca/grizzly/

what a hilarious story - not sure if i would have known how to react if I encountered such a scene in the woods!! meataxe - regarding regarding the Mark VII suit in project grizzly - right on, that's exactly what I was thinking when I read this. I didn't know there was a video clip on the web; definitely a part of canadiana that should be (shamefully) shared. Can you believe he got government funding for that???!!! grasp your stomach, laugh hysterically, point, repeat, roll around on the ground, point, repeat...

Yep, Project Grizzly is a must-see in my books. A documentary about an average guy from North Bay, Ontario who has a life-changing encounter with a grizzly bear. He pours his life savings into his research project: building a suit that will allow him to get close to a grizzly and make it out alive. I found this website devoted to Troy Hurtubise and his suit. More video clips! http://projecttroy.com/website/toc.htm
