This area is definately a St. Louis attraction. It is found 2 & 1/2 hours from St. Louis in the Ozarks of Missouri/ Illinois. A great place to do some bouldering or Trad, More rock than a police sweep of the city's south side. And simply set as a place to workout and camp. Pictures soon to follow.

I haven't been there, but I'm planning a trip there this fall. I live in Memphis, and some pf my friends have been up there and have said it's great. I heard theres a bunch of sport routes too. Is this true??

I am going to have some photos online for Jackson Falls. Climbing for all difficulties and lots of bouldering and some cave routes.
Beutiful area. You WILL have a good time.

JDS,
I am fairly new at this sport. I take everything I learn to heart. I respect your response, however, I disagree. The Good Life is aged but well liked. As for Jackson Falls, it is a great place to go. Primitive?
Yes. Fun? Even better. Have you checked out "Eartquake Hollow" outside of Jefferson City? Nice Missouri location. Let me know if you want to know how to get there.

robydonn: I'll be very grateful for any info on a good climbing spot; feel free to pass along the "how to" for the spot in Missouri. I do also want to strongly recommend Draper's and Cedar Bluff in S. Illinois, if you have not been yet. If you don't have Eric Ulner's guidebook for S. Illinois, try to get one. A new edition will be published, probably early next year (my best guess). For a current edition, which is technically out of print, check Chessler Books, either online, or call 'em; they've got adds in the climbing mags every issue. They will likely have copies, and their catalog is well worth looking through and making a wish list anyway. Good climbing!

Hey JDS,
Thank you for your response. To get to Earthquake Hollow from STL..... I-70 west to highway 54 south. Travel south for about 18 miles and exit at TT. Make a left on TT to the Earthquake Hollow sign. You will find yourself on a gravel road. Take that for a mile and park at the lot provided. You will need to walk in about 50 yards along the trail and you are there. It is amazing about this rock formation because there is nothing else around closely resembling rock. You'll
love it.

Bouldering beyond belief......No ropes. Just bring your crash pad. It is well worth it.

i went to jackson falls a couple months ago, and it was pretty good climbing. im not a very good climber (5.9-5.10) and there were some pretty good climbs. look for gumby's paradise, very good climb. the double finger pocket is tricky though.
