Hey all, looking for Beta on matterhorn routes. I don't really want to ascend fixed ropes, whats the north go at? (rating and how many pitches etc.) Any and all route info would be helpful - thanks all

Hi Bacon,

The Matterhorn is currently falling apart. There is an alarming amount of rockfall coming off, day and night. Rockfall avalanches are a better way to describe it. If you like that kind of thing though...

If you want to avoid the fixed lines of the Hörnligrat or the Liongrat, try the Zmuttgrat. It goes at III+ UIAA. The routes are all about 1200m long. The descent is also quite long - be prepared for four hours of downclimbing up to grade III.

Hope this helps.

+A
