As I sit here with my broken foot and sprained ankle I wondered; what is the worst injury you've ever sustained while climbing?

Torn ligaments in my shoulder which caused it to dislocate at gymnastics a few days later. It's been about 6-7 months of healing and no gymnastics for me, but luckily climbing doesn't hurt! Hope you get well soon, Pam

I broke the talus bone in my left foot. I wasn't able to weight my foot for three months.I finally went and climbed on Aug. 6 four months and three weeks after I broke it. I still have a long way to go before it is back to normal. I still have a limited range of motion and it is still swollen. How bad did you break yours? If you need some advice, I'd be glad to give it. I could have done some things to ease my recovery period by exercising my leg to minimize the atrophy, which happened faster than I thought it would.

I just got back from the ER, and my left leg is broken where the tibia meets the ankle. Im going to see someone tomorow about it. I had to rap twice, and hike an hour to get back to the car. Thanks again for carying my pack Matt. I fell on a #3 Metolious cam, and was using double ropes.

i took a sport lead fall, 16 feet into a ledge, tore ligaments in my left footside outside part, sprained the inside, middle (yes u can sprain the middle) :? , and of course the outside part of it where the torn ligaments were at. Almost broke a couple of parts of my ankle, only 2 weeks off from climbing but i didnt climb good for 2 more weeks, and i had mile and half hike out and then a 5 hour drive home  :D makes for good excuses and conversations.

Fell (In the gym of all places) and pushed my radius four inches into my bicep (dislocated elbow). Two month recovery led to a decent ice season, now a full year later I am onsighting where I was last year and redpointing two grades higher. Chin up, you'll be climbing again in know time.

I've boken a foot and a finger, but the most dangerous part of climbing occurs when you break up fire wood. Major bad owies!

Fractured my foot and sprained my ankle real bad at a bouldering comp in the gym... Couldn't climb on it for two months. Have started climbing again, but the ankle is still a bit of a weak spot (I tore the ligaments pretty bad).

I've got an addiction. That qualifies as an injury, doesn't it?

I don't actually know when I got this injury, but I would guess it happened during climbing, and that was breaking the bone next to the growth plate in the middle knuckle on my middle finger of my left hand (I'm a lefty). I went to the doctor in June after it swelled and hurt when I tried to bend it more than 50%, and he said it was probably just sprained, so he suggested I just let it heal by itself, so I left it alone until September, climbing as usual, and even qualified and went to the junior nationals (I was 14) and did horribly. It was still swollen and painful in September, so I went back, got it X-Rayed, found out it was broken, and kept it in a bent metal splint for two weeks, not climbing. Then I went to a finger specialist, and he told me that the bend splint wasn't helping it, so I got a straight metal bar I taped to my finger to keep it straight. I wore that for about four months (it healed really slowly), but had to wear it while I climbed so I wouldn't pull the weak bone apart again for about two months. To keep climbing, I made a bent metal "hook" that went around my left wrist to use instead of my left hand. It was kind of like a small, blunt version of an ice axe, and I could finally hold onto all of those crimpers that used to frustrate me. . . It is still kind of swollen, and I can't bend it all the way, but it is healed.

I fell on a pendulum and pulled a cam out. Broke my back. Compression fracture L2 & L3. As long as I do the stretches I have no real problems. I was on a grade over my abilities and hit a rock at the deck.
