Is this place really closed to climbing on Saturday? If yes, is it all year long or just seasonal? The pictures are impressive

Talk to the park rangers. I do believe it is closed on Sat. I heard access is very sensitive, if the rules aren't followed it will be closed for good.

Contact the folks at the Minnesota Climbers Association (www.mnclimbing.org). Even though Willow River is across the boarder in WI, they may still have info about access.

Even though I've never been there.. talk to Brian (brianthew). Since he's been there, he might have a better idea of the access issues.

Photon- I too have never been there. My Grandmother has a large weeping willow tree in her yard and I've always enjoyed swinging from it. Unfortunately, I have no beta, but I've heard of a guy that knows a girl who has also heard of this place. His name is Timmy. Give him a call.

Yes, it is closed on Saturday, and it's only open on Friday and Sunday before noon. Any other day, it's open all day.

Some people say that these rules only exist from Memorial Day to Labor Day. I'm no so sure about that, as I've heard of rangers coming around to check for climbers at noon even outside those dates. When I was last there (two weeks ago) we left before noon on sunday.

Also, only climb on the far side of the river (meaning the big giant area). There exist routes elsewhere, but they aren't actually legit. The access there is kinda tenuous as is, don't push it.

"Big moves to big holds" is about the best description of Willow climbing I can think of. Awesome place. Best time I ever had climbing in the midwest. Big, powerful, uber-steep routes on limestone. Beautiful.

Where's my prize?? :D

hello anybody in there? All you folks who want to talk to rangers and are suffering from Alzheimer's turn up your hearing aides and turn down your TV a second. My first post states I had knowledge of the Park's interesting and thoughtful closure of climbing on Saturday's. It seems we have some Seventh Day Adventists running the park, but I digress. Some parts of this web-site have apparently been created for the discussion of the passtime known as rock climbing. Following this line of thought, I tried to generate a little discussion of this impressive looking cave and it's relationshiop to said passtime by those who had actually visited the park and enjoyed firsthand the apparent pumpy nature of the climbing found next to that noisy falls area. I'll probably talk to my first ranger there at noon or so on a Friday or Sunday I'm guessing and I'll definitlely know if they're bald.
Now because mewalrus you have shown a lot persistence I'm upgrading
your prize to a copy of True Grit by Charles Portis and for you couch_climber some remote batteries and mewalrus' copy of how to better answer questions you know nothing about

If that is what you were trying to discuss, why did you ask, “Is this place really closed to climbing on Saturday?” People responding to your post were simply trying to answer your question. Imagine that!

And despite the fact that I now live in CO, I have visited and climbed in the park. If you go, my suggestion is that everyone wears a helmet at all times. The rock is less than solid, and we pulled off lots of rock while we were climbing there. Watch out below!

My dearest photon -

Well, I have been to Willow and have climbed at Willow. I guess that makes me qualified to suggest you check with the park regarding their regulations. Seems like that *might* yield the most current, correct answer.

Thanks for the batteries; I can do without the book...
CC

PS. Wearing a lid is a good idea.

You cannot climb here on Saturdays. Friday till noon and Sunday till noon. Mon - Thurs anytime. I climb here weekly. It is a grand place. Be prepared to climb steep 12s. Access hours are strictly enforced. Rangers will site for climbing outside of hours. There are no labor day/memorial day exceptions. Please do not break the rules and threaten access.

word to your mother.
