Recently had a great day on Penta (including my fav Sasquatch) after being rained off 2 other times. When I got that last pitch the pin is gone. You know the one, right off of the anchors after that diagnal slab traverse. It was always nice to have, just clip and go. However it is protectable with some good micro-nut craft. I would like to get some insight on some of your opinions of this reappering phenomonin ( pin).

*phenomenon I really don't see a need for the pin. Get it out and keep it out. The moves it protects really aren't that bad.

I heard the pin pulled out rather easily...as in it probably wouldn't have held a fall.

In reply to: I heard the pin pulled out rather easily...as in it probably wouldn't have held a fall. I know who snagged it. Bugger beat me to it. Very not required. Brian in SLC

agree, not required, but did you clip it? I did when it was there. Now I just use some tricky nut craft with a couple of RP's.

Last time I did the route was just after it was pulled (August). And, was just up there on Monday night after work... I do dimly remember slingin' the tree that used to be there on the traverse...but...I think its just a nub now. I won't miss it 'cause I never really used it. Brian in SLC

Did anybody notice that the pin on the first pitch was MIA. That pin was just as pointless if not more so than the pin on the last pitch.

triznut, I found that pin (first pitch) at the base of the climb the other day. I was just lying in the dirt. I guess some one wanked it and threw it down. Any Trades? John

Yeah... I don't care much for pins (but I did clip it a couple of times)..... I love the holy-er than thou types who complain about the pin, but when they climb they clip it..... I bet that pin scar will gobble just about anything now. I liked the tree. I thought it would hold a truck. I feel sorry for the poor sucker that yanked that tree.... I guess I was wrong about running it out above the tree....

Do you mean the nub of an old tree (just below the climber)... http://mtncommunity.org/...3f95a3e06e30888f.jpg Or...the belay tree or the tree used as pro (below the climber)... http://mtncommunity.org/...3f95a44e6e37c580.jpg Nope, all still there...
