In reply to: Out. It's a thumb thing. All other ways are completely unsafe. Be warned, you will die if they are facing in. I think you're lying. No one in their right mind would place a draw facing outward. I put my harness on and racked up just for the hell of it. You've go to manipulate the gate and the draw three times as much as just unclipping it. Horse sh** If people are worried about getting it caught on their shirt, just tuck the shirt in.

After flipping through some back issues of climbing magazines, I noticed from the pictures that while most climbers are innies, a good lot of them are outies. Even the famous are divided on this. Ergo it's a preference thing.

I clip 'biners into all my gear and lob 'em up at the mountain, whatever sticks I clip into when I pass. But that certainly clears the gear loops' function up for me...

I like to go totally random. I also like to put my pro in totally random places to keep me on my toes. It makes the climb more challenging fishing for things.

Whatever. This is lame. Just as long as you understand that the toilet paper faces AWAY from the wall. Anything else is UNACCEPTABLE :x

I climb gates facing in however after recently obtaining a petzl harness from work I noticed the fast foreward gear loops work much better with gates facing out. Oh well as for my gear sling I dont know or care. The ovals are really easy to work with.

The sun is usually higher than the horizon when you are trying to block it out (no duh). If the blinds are down then the light can get through between the slats at certain angles but if they are up then the overlap is perpendicular to the direction of light in all cases. Of course they look nicer down. BTW. I'm an inny.

I think that once you've worked the blinds orientation problem out, other orientation problems, like biners on harnesses, and the universal toilet paper roll problem, really start to fall into place. -Jay

Out is the only way. I'll flip the roll at other people's houses even. The blinds are a more complicated matter.... If you are above ground level... sloping inward will prevent unwanted peeping as well as help facilitate smoke evacuation. If that's your bag. If you wish to be peeped, then by all means, slope out. If you have the window open and it happens to be directly behind your classic vacuum tube amplified stereo, and it happens to be raining.... then sloping outward will allow ventillation while preventing cold droplets from landing on hot glass tubes.

I once flipped the TP roll around into the proper orientation at Climbsomething's house, and now she is extolling the virtues of properly oriented TP on a public forum. She once told me that she "learned a lot from our relationship." I'm glad I could help. -Jay

If the blinds are down then the light can get through between the slats at certain angles but if they are up then the overlap is perpendicular to the direction of light in all cases I couldn't have said it better myself. As for the toilet paper, when it faces out and I rip off a piece, the roll keeps spinning, leaving a long strand of TP coming from the roll, which must then be rewound. I'm going against the grain and saying that I like the TP facing in. And if somebody switched MY toilet paper... things could get ugly.

i have read somewhere.. i will have to go threw my books if you really want to know wich one...' i think it was one of the really old ones' that the proper way is the gate facing out from the body... so when you are climbing the gate does not open up agianst the body and drop off.... i was an innie untill i had this problem happen to me my first month climbing ... lost a piece of gear because of it white tricam aimd admist people from around 60 feet up.... i became an outie and have never had a piece of gear unclip itself like that scince : going on 4 years now...

gotta chime in on the TP thing....you folks clearly don't have 2 year olds in the home who like to spin the TP roll while sitting there wondering why they are sitting there.....your way leaves me with a pile of unravelled TP! and thanks folks for humoring me with valid responses to my stupid question.
