At my gym the holds are screwed into a facade wall of cavity blocks, with some of the the blocks slightly offest to form crimps (or not-so-crimps in some cases) and small footholds... There's a gap between two of the walls which servers as a tight crack. Anyone elses gym got these? I think they're a great idea!

i know my gym doesn't have them. but out of curiosity...what are you referring to as cavity blocks??

er, general building blocks: about 18 inches by 9 inches by 9 inches, grey, rough, made of two hollow compartments... well that's how they used to be until nwe EU regulations, but that's another story...

Sounds like what you're describing is what I've always called cinder blocks. Dont know if that's the real name for them.

FYI:
The proper term is CMU, or concrete masonary block, commonly reffered to as cinder block (cinder was historically used in making this type of masonary, but is no longer used).

OKC Rocks in oklahoma city is inside grain silos, and imperfections (ie chipped out sections) in the concrete are used as holds.
