Planning on climbing outside in January, but I know that a lot of the climbs in the bay area are sandstone, and turn to mud in the rain and take days to dry out. Since rain is pretty likely, I was wondering if anyone had some reccomendations for some moderate stuff (5.7-5.10a) around San Francisco that isn't on sandstone?

there's mt. diablo, woodside and handley rocks, mickey's beach, the bear (and others) up in napa, the grotto over by sonora if you're willing to make the drive, as well as bouldering at indian rock in berkeley. castle needs at least 2-4 days to dry after rain, but it's great when it's not soaked. the bouldering is significantly more worthwhile than the roped climbing, however.

I was thinking the beach area climbs would be too cold/wet in the winter. But it's kind of academic since they are all pretty stiff :) I've always wanted to try beaver st., but it seems a bit short on variety. I.e. 4 starts to one climb... Mt Tam sounds good. I've climbed there and like it. Just couldn't remember what kind of rock it was. Thanks c

There's Pinnacles down south by Hollister. Plenty of stuff to last you there. The rock is breccia.
