How do you bring spent velcro back to life, can it be done. If not how do you replace the stuff? (on a shell parka, wrist and front)

Thanks

Easy! You get Joann to sew some new velcro on. If you're lucky she'll smile at you when she's finished. Well, she smiled at me anyway.

Yea, I go to my wife to sew on new velcro too! Or to fix anything that need sewn. I have more than one pack that looks like it's been to a war zone, with sewn on patches and new velcro.

Are you guys saying I have to get married to get my velcro sewn back on? O.K. if I have to. Any takers out there? I'll do all the cooking! :)

Nope. I'm married to Nancy, not Joann. She still smiled at me though!

But marriage and velcro have a lot in common, hooks, loops and a great tearing sound when it comes apart.

Go for the velcro. Steer clear of marriage unless you're ready to be hooked.

Then who is this mysterious Joann that you speak of? She doesnt even have to marry me, but I will cook her dinner!!

If I can get my velcro updated without having to get married I think that would be the way I would like to go!

Rip off the old velcro. And if you don't fancy sewing yourself and don't want to get married to get it done, there's a glue-on version of velcro. :D :D

Velcro is also know "hook and pile" or "hook and loop". Can't fix, must replace. But only the "pile/loop" side if two pieces.

The reason it stops working is that the loops in the "piles" become torn, and the "hooks" don't grab them.

OK, so now I am a velco geek. :(

The one quick fix (and temporary) I've found to fix failing velcro, is to take a lighter and lightly scorch the soft side of the velcro. The heat makes the little thread loops curl up and gives the rough (plastic) side something to hook into. The trick is to not melt it (or your jacket, gloves, etc.) too much or the velcro won't stick at all.
I repeat this is a temporary fix and you still need to have it replaced when you can. But it can be a help when your caught in a crunch and you need a quick fix.

Oh ya, my wife fixes my velcro too, but she always asks why my gear smells burnt.
