This question is posed to all, regardless of your own gender or the gender that you look to for beauty....
I have begun to notice how physically attractive the sight of low body fat shoulders and arms are. I, myself, am referring to female climbers, but I wonder if others feel the same way.
I find myself thinking (when noticing Pamela Anderson style person), "She looks so soft. I'll bet she couldn't do a 5.4 slab."
btw: I have too much body fat, but I am working on reducing it. Of course, as I have lost weight, I look better to myself as well.

I totally agree. Since taking up climbing a couple of years ago my idea of a beautiful woman has changed. Now my dream girl has chalk smeared on her face, veins popping out of her forearms from redponting a 5.13, sunburnt shoulders, and hands that would make a manacurist scream.

I have noticed over the last year while my upper body was getting more defined that people ( male climbers mostly) would comment about " hey, great back muscles....or great triceps. I always was in decent shape, but as my muscles have become more defined, climber guys are commenting. My female non climber friends think I'm crazy for climbing, but what do they know, they are non climbers :)

My perception of beauty has always been a little different.
I don't really find climbing girls' bodies more attractive than non climbers', though I have always prefered an atheletic look in women. But deep attraction for me truly now requires a strong mind attatched to the body.

I've always been partial to long haired shaggy hippie looking dudes....now I like my longhaired hippies with a solid chest, abs and a rockin' back/shoulders. Cut hippies...that's my new beauty standard :lol: :lol: !

Yes. I've come to realize that body fat % plays almost no role whatsoever in terms of beauty.
I'm not anywhere near as picky as I used to be. Growing up, that.
What a fool someone would be, to pass up on a soul mate, because she had the "fleshies" hanging from the bottom of her arm, or suffered a 25% body fat ratio. What a damned fool that person will be when they find and marry that beauty queen, only to discover said beauty really is only skin deep. And what a goddamned fool that man will remain, who would continue to suffer the presence of a beauty queen he hates all in the name of vanity.
Now if the beauty queen is also a penthouse model of great renown, forget all that damned fool talk. GO FOR IT AND BE HAPPY, FOOL!

I climbed about a year and a half before I started viscerally associating the climber’s body with beauty. That was how long it took me to really start to understand how much work, effort, obsession and joy has to go into climbing before the rock has time and opportunity to shape a person’s back into the topography we all know and love. I suppose there is beauty in those muscles themselves, but it originated in the passion that created them.
Before I started climbing I always associated high levels of muscular development with weight lifting or body building, a passion which I just do not grok. Every once in a while I will still notice the difference between a body built for climbing and a body built by weights and the latter still does not strike me as beautiful.

Cut just from climbing :wink: ...not gym/weights cut, but climbing cut. Hell the way guys look when they come off El Cap is like a physical work of art...and that's mostly from aiding :lol: :lol: !

There used to be this girl that climbed very gracefully and she looked really great - lean and strong, but feminine. Her movements were very graceful on the wall. But she's been bouldering on plastic very hard for the past half a year and her body looks a little too butch for my taste now - slightly hunched, broader looking shoulders. Even her posture and climbing style looks kinda masculine now.
I like different types - lean, soft, tall, petite,... but if the lady starts to look like Mr.Universe, then... not for me.

I was nine when I started climbing.... so the difference in the girls I liked then and now is a bit... umm... unrelated. ;)

After climbing for a while, I have caught myself checking out a girl's arms almost before anything else. I'm thinking "Dang! I bet she'd make a great climber!" or "yeah, she's not to bad, but I bet she couldn't even get up a 5.5"
My friends think I'm crazy, but those strong arm girls are where it's at. But not huge bulging muscles, just strong and defined.

I've devolped a fascination/appreciation for the form of the hatha yoga adept more than the burly climber form.
But I find a woman who can keep her cool in a heady climbing situation amazingly attractive, almost irrestible.
