Any of y'all ever stay at the Bonnie Springs Motel in Blue Diamond? Just wonder what it's like... cost... etc.

kind of pricy with gimicky theme rooms If money is not an issue it is kind of nice in a non-climber sort of way.

We stayed here a couple of times back in the mid 90's. It was okay, the hotel was a bit funky and inexpensive when shared among a group of climbers. They have a cafe and a bar with walls covered in dollar bill signed by thousands of visitors. They have a zoo of sorts and a wild west town thing going on but we pretty much ignored all that. The first time we stayed there they were having soome kind of plague of huge slow moving black bugs. They were getting into the rooms and in the hotel office there was a big ashtray on the counter full of dead ones (some not-so-dead ones too). So the place can't be too bad if we went back after living through that! They have a website http://www.bonniesprings.com/ Good luck.

Thanks for the input...! We reserved a room there for this weekend, and I'll put up a report after we get back. Jerry

Well... Bonnie Springs Motel is a muy interesting place to stay at a not-too-outrageous cost. We were charged $79/night for Friday and Saturday, and $69/night for Sunday including all taxes, etc. We split it three ways, and got two double beds and a roll-away. The decor is quite quirky, but has a certain tacky sort of charm... There is a petting zoo with a herd of peacocks that provided quite a bit of fodder for conversation. However, if you have difficulty sleeping, you might want to avoid the place: they are quite noisy... There's a restaurant on-site, but the hours vary, and weren't conducive to an early start. It was raining our first morning there, so we sampled the quisine: nothing to write home about, but not bad either. We balked at paying $16.95/plate for dinner though. We drove into town and got pizza that fed all of us for the price it would've run for one plate there. Maybe the dinner is dynamite, but if breakfast was any indication, it was probably only average... Our room sprung a leak during the rainstorm, but no damage was done, and it netted us a 10% discount. You can't get any closer to the rocks unless you are camping. I'd stay there again, but would bring a small ice-chest. Some of the rooms have kitchenettes (which can easily offset the price of the room by not eating in restaurants)... I give it 3 stars on a 5 star scale. I'd have no problem staying there again.
