I was trying to find route information on the Sphinx. Hoping to hit up some routes this summer. Does anyone have some topos to share. Or websites guidebooks, magazine back issues, etc that have info and topos. Any info appreciated. Thanks, Bobby :D

Are you referring to the Sphinx in the Madison range of MT? If so, I have done a few routes up it, but they were all in the winter. It is a personal favorite of mine. There is a non-technical route up the north facing couloir that is a sick late winter powder stash for ski mountaineering, and there is also a super steep mutlipitch ice route up the far north west face (AI4 - 5). If i'm not mistaken Alex Lowe also put up a route on the south west face that is very commiting and high level. This area is full of Grizzly bears that like to inhabit the meadows and dark forests that the approach cuts through. We put them there to keep the yuppies out. Best regards, Nicholas http://www.montanahomestead.com/.../sphinx%20beauty.jpg Not the best image, but I found it after a quick google search. I can post some photos if from the different aspects if we are talking about the same mountain.

There's decent online beta out there if you do a Google Search, and it might be covered in Brad Johnson's new book to the Cordillera Blanca, but I'm not sure. The hardest free route right now is 5.13a, done last summer; the classic free route is the "Normal Route," I think, at 5.11c. I'd love to go down there someday, too.
