If the access fund lets rumbling bald slip through it's fingers we will lose the best winter bouldering in the southeast. Its probobly going to get blasted before anyone even realizes what is happening and the extent of how good the bouldering is. The really sad part is that most climbers know very little about the amount and quality of the boulder problems because of all the trad climbing and access issues over the years. I just think it is really sad that the only rock in the southeast that can even form problems close to V15 is going to be lost because nobody cares enough.

Contact the access fund, preferrably by phone. Also try to contact whoever owns the land. Try to contact someone who could do something, instead of just moping about it on an internet forum.

I agree with you. Losing the boulders at Rumbling Bald would suck. The Bald is definately one of the best boulderfields/cliffs in this region of the US. It has some incredible moderate problems and probably the best setting in the southeast. If you have any info on how to save Rumbling Bald, this would be a better post. I guess www.ncbouldering.com and the carolina climbers coalition websites might be able to help.

RB Rules !!! Both roped climbing and bouldering. Hell, I was lucky enough to find, clean, and FA a problem there last year (Group Effort):

I love the area also, and am still considering moving to Lake Lure in the future to retire.

BTW... Moving this to Access Issues & Closures.

for those of us not 'in the know', could you please elaborate on the situation?

though i will agree that losing RB would suck for climbers, present and future, i don't think that a lack of responses over a span of only 12 hours, on a friday night no less, proves anything.

For more details, click this thread posted back in April also titled "Save RB":

If you go back a few pages in this same forum, you will find more on this, as it's been in jeopordy for a while.

S8

A juggy and selfless start leads to thin insults and a poorly-veiled, slopey spraymantle top out.

WEEEEEEEEE! This is fun!

I'm not aware of the current issues with the boulderfields. I have climbed there a few times and I know one of the land owners and he is not planning on any development. The access fund has been involved with RB and worked with the landowners on a parking lot and access issues in the past.

Where are the boulders you mention, I can make a call to find out who the landowner is if I know the location and forward that info to The Access Fund.

Come out and help support the effort to save Rumbling Bald, NC. Home to some incredible bouldering as well as classic trad and sport climbs, "The Bald" is an amazing resource in danger of being lost. Please come out if you can, send money if you can't or just channel some good karma if you're broke! Info here: http://www.seclimbers.org/...file=article&sid=266

NC Senate Bill 586 passed the NC senate and now must be passed by the house of reps. Notify your rep and let them know how they need to vote on this one.

http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2005&BillID=S586

may just get us a new state park and save the bald.
