Once you get in, just find a map of the state, they usually have camping symbols for areas. You can usually find free camping if you look around forest areas.

In reply to: Once you get in, just find a map of the state, they usually have camping symbols for areas. You can usually find free camping if you look around forest areas. get a topo map to find the forest service roads. oh, and be prepared for a fight. the local NASCAR/Hee Haw contingent will arrive, drunk of course, somewhere about three in the morning to spotlight your bivy, honk their horns, "f*ck you hippies", etc. i'm definately not a gun person, but pretty much all of my future Forest Service road bivies in colorado will include a firearm. i am not even kidding. welcome to america.

I don't know of any camping real close to Eldorado Canyon. There is roadside camping and good trad climbing along highway 7 just south of Lyons (St. Vrain Canyon). This is about 20 miles north of Eldorado, and you probably don't need a gun there. Where else you going? Let me know if you want to meet up for some climbing. -Jim

If you guys have a car... On this map right about where it says Pheonix on the west side of the road is a dirt road that goes into National forest land. You can hang a left off of this dirt road after the houses stop and camp there for free. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&formtype=search&countryid=US&addtohistory=&country=US&address=&city=Nederland&state=co&zipcode=&historyid=&submit=Get+Map http://You can also stay at the hostel in Boulder for pretty cheap and it is a hell of a lot closer.
