Mark you calendars! The third annual Avalanche Jam, will take place from 5 to 10 pm on Friday, September 10th, outside the American Mountaineering Center in Golden Colorado. Once again the folks at Backcountry access, have stepped up to the plate in hosting the Avalanche Jam. The Avalanche Jam is a fundraiser for the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC). The CAIC provides avalanche education and forecasting for the Colorado backcountry community. Last years Avalanche Jam netted over $10,000 for the CAIC. This years headlining band, "Hit and Run," is a popular bluegrass band. So, bring your dance shoes! In addition to the music, the event will INCLUDE dinner by Trappeda's Gourmet cafe, beer from New Belgium Brewery, an outdoor industry demo village and door prizes. Donors to the silent auction include BCA, Marmot, MSR, Lowe Alpine, Patagonia, Burton, Lowa and Black Diamond -- and the list is growing daily. So, make sure you bring your checkbook. For ticketing and sponsorship info call BCA at (303) 417-1345 or see http://www.avalanchejam.com AFTER July 15th. All of the Boulder staff of the CAIC will be on hand at the CAIC booth. Please stop by and say hello. Cheers, Halsted Morris 8^) CAIC

Here is a little update on the Avalanche Jam. 8^) The Avalanche Jam website is now up and working. You can go to it to check out the event details, directions to the event and how to buy tickets on the website. You can buy tickets either on the web or at Front Range retailers. We would really like to boost the number of folks attending the Avalanche Jam this year. Please take a moment and send your friends the website address. This is a party not to miss!!! http://www.avalanchejam.com Cheers, Halsted Morris CAIC

You don't want this thing to stay on the front page do you. Answer yes and it will get you another shamless bump without saying bump. This sounds pretty cool.

In reply to: Any chance for some dry-tooling inside the AMC building? Or shall we just work it up on the stone walls outside! I don't know.... Since there is FREE beer at the Avalanceh Jam, the dry tooling gig might get out of hand. Did you hear about the guys drytooling in the Black Canyon? Wow! Hope to see you at the Avalanche Jam. :D Cheers, Halsted Morris CAIC

Are you sure you're ready for this????? Well, you do have to buy a ticket to get into the event...... But, you are getting dinner, beer (as much as you can drink.... :P ), entry into door prize drawings, music, dancing and the warm fuzzy feeling of helping out the CAIC. :D As for drytooling in the Black Canyon, there's a "dipatchs" type report in the latest issue of Climbing Magazine. Maybe there's something on their website. Cheers, Halsted Morris CAIC

In reply to: In addition to the music, the event will INCLUDE dinner by Trappeda's Gourmet cafe, beer from New Belgium Brewery Um, does this mean that Beer Girl will be there? http://www.geocities.com/tradkelly2/10Ouray.jpg If so, then Geo, Tradkelly, Sharpie, and most of the rest of the Ouray Gathering Gang will probably be falling all over themselves to get in.

Glad you qualified it by saying "most." I'm not showing up for the likes of Beer Girl. Only 'cause YOU DON'T KNOW JACK! Now if HE'S there, I'll wet myself like a puppy happy to see its new master! I do have the picture of Martha going gah gah goo goo over Jack, its really cute, pig tails and all. Highest bidder gets to see them. The pictures that is.

In reply to: dang, and i thought this was going to be some sort of pre-season pep rally for the Avs. I was once doing an awareness presentation for some 5th graders. As I started my presentation, I overheard one kid down front say to another kid, "he's not a hockey player, he has his front teeth." D'oh! Cheers, Halsted

In reply to: Hay, bring both "Beer girl" and "Pizza girl," the more the marrier! Halsted: Rest assured, my friend, that if Pizza Girl does show up, I'd be happy to "Marry Her." Or is that maker her merry? I can never keep them straight.
