weird climbing dreams

This freaked me out:

Last night I dreamt that a professional matchmaker was trying to find me a boyfriend. He measured my arm strength and decided I was too strong and should stop climbing if I wanted to be attractive to men. (This is hilarious. My arms in real life are like Olive Oyle.) I wouldn't do it. He then walked me through a huge cafeteria full of young people all interviewing potential mates. It disgusted me. I shouted, "How can you love ANYTHING MORE THAN CLIMBING?"

Then I woke up. Yikes!

(I'm not even that good at climbing. I knew I was obsessed/addicted, but I love LOTS of people more than climbing...)

Anybody else have freaky climbing-related dreams?

last week my wife and i were sleeping and she started having a coughing fit at like 3am. i rolled over and said "hey buddy, you okay over der?".

i was dreaming that i was bivying with my partner.

i've since taken to caller her buddy and its always good for a laugh.

woken up at home in bed having to take a wiz and decieded to hold it becouse i didn't feel like getting out of my bag, putting on my boots and getting out of the tent.

i've had a couple dreams about waking up without being tied in during a bivy. both on ledges and portaledges.

but, i have to give credit. ter_bee, your dream is on a whole other plane of weirdness.

OK I have one. It's a little egocentric also.

There was this huge tree in downtown Provo and this cat got stuck up at the top. The local fire dept. couldn't get to it and there was quite a crowd and the media began to show up. So I casually pulled my rope, draws slings, harness etc. out of the car and started up the tree. I'd sling a branch or clip those "tree bolts" all without a belayer. After getting to the top of the tree and successfully rescuing the cat there were cheers all around.

Silly huh?

Sad but true. I think I thought all those other people had agreed to give up climbing in order to date. I was so angry!

Other people's climbing dreams are cool.

(Good for your wife, Euro. Being called buddy is cute. It's not fair that only guys get called buddy.)

I have had one, but it's too convoluted too bother trying to explain here. Let's just say it involved me leading Shockley's ceiling (i have never led trad before or even been on that route), two people from this site (one I've never met), and a orange rescue backboard.

It was actually rather freaky.

I had one that was making me choose between climbing or a girl. I am just glad that i woke up before i had to voice my decision because i don't know how i would have broken the news to her!

I had a dream where my usual group of climbing friends and I decided to free solo some giant black basalt monolith thing (only one guy in the group ever free solos anything, the rest of us really aren't into it).

While searching for the second pitch on top of this big mesa like thing, a good friend of mine slipped on some scree, broke through a huge rotten log (no clue how that got up there), and plummited to his death. I immediately woke up...

It was one of those dreams where you wake up and think "thank god that was only a dream!!!"

I used to dream all the time that I was soloing multi-pitch sandstone routes. It's been a while since I had one of those.

Last week I had a dream that I fell off a mountain. That sucked.

2 nights ago I had delusions of grandeur that I met the climber man of my dreams at this climbing trade show thing and married him. The strange thing is that the man in my dreams isn't even a real person that I know. Or at least I don't think I do.

I used to have a re-occuring dream where I was climbing away and a hold broke plummeting me towards the ground. after this happened a number of times on different nights I moved my bed out from under my home wall (it was a great crash pad) and things have been o.k since. Although I have woken in the middle of the night to pee and had to remind myself that I could get up as I was not actually on my portaledge.

This is an easy dream to analyze. You're subconciously afraid that climbing makes you unattractive to men. Moreover, I would imagine that you think climbing is pursuit frowned on by the civilized world. Lastly, you have a real distaste for the typical dinner-and-a-movie dating scheme. But then, since you're a climber, all this is obvious to you.

I had a dream once where I was aiding some scary death pitch and (here's the kicker) I never fell. Wierd huh?

I dream about climbing ALL THE TIME, maybe even every night. I've dreamt about friends falling off of mountains, about glaciated volcanoes in Hawaii, about huge big walls in South America, about the Matterhorn and the Grand Teton and lesser mountains that I've climbed and fallen in love with. I dream about climbing on rock, at the local crags, going way over my head and doing awesome and loving it.

Analyze that. The conclusion is this: that I'm totally wacky and completely obsessed and not all that good.

During some random climbing dream I tried to crimp my girlfriends back. Right where her spine and muscle meet. I still don't remember doing it but I guess I woke her up, pushing her down into the bed. Wierd...

Not so weird but still quite interesting (at least to me).... Usually I don't remember dreams, just bits and pieces but last week had this dream where I was climbing and there was a bald eagle circling overhead.... In full color, sound, smell....everything....could feel the sun on my back, smell the pine in the air, feel the grit under my nails....it was so real that when I woke I was really disoriented and thought I had fallen and was just waking from a coma or something....had to check the date on my phone to make sure I didn’t miss anything and yet still laid in bed thinking “is this real or was that real and this just a dream”…

climbing a thin rock tower that sways in the wind, then falling and waking just before you hit the ground.
