I'm planning to hit Rumney for my first time in late Sept on a weekend. What are the best uncrowded crags in the 5.8-11 range? Thanks

When the air is cool and crisp as it should be in Sept., that's when it's the best time to climb at Rumney, which means it's likely that the crags will be busy on a nice weekend. It's best to plan which area provides the most climbs and arrive early. The Parking Lot Wall area fills up the quickest, along with the 5-8 crag, since they are both close to parking and the road. Solitude will most likely be found at the upper crags. Enjoy!

I was at Rumney on Sunday a week and a half ago, and we thought the crags near the parking lot would be too crowded, so we went to Upper Darth Vader. But, as it turned out, that crag was pretty full, so we wound up going back to Meadows. Lo and behold, there were plenty of free routes. So you never can tell. I recommend Hinterlands, though, for both remoteness and quality of routes.
