I'm really just not sure how I'm supposed to reply to this...where is bouldering going? Is it going down the crapper? Will it fade away? Will it just continue to get ripped on and have all the hard core traddies (who I aspire to be, by the way........) say it's for pot smoking wusses? I enjoy it, if that matters at all. What do you want from me????

By a rack go climb something for real, bouldering is training for climbing and slack lines are a good example of a misuse of climbing gear, join the circus kids if you want to walk tight ropes and do tricks hahaha.

boudering is here to stay IMHO.

but what do you mean by developing??? harder problems, new gear??

imho harder problems will continue to appear, but i dont know about the gear... theres only so many ways to make a crash pad. im only waiting for selfinflatable (or even just inflatable) ones. that ought to be cool if they can make them puncture proof to at least some extent.

For me, bouldering is like, so last Saturday. And it will probably be, y'know, Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon, too, if I can get out of work a little early.

Slack lines are cool but we never wasted any time building one back in the day. we allways slack lined on the old cable style guard rails. bouldering was and still is training for real climbing (unless you belive all the marketing) another favorite activity back in the day was drunken/stoned bridge traverses. Find a big span and traverse out the steel girders on the underside of it. some times those suckers are LONG and it can be scetch getting off the beam at the other side 8^)

Bouldering definitly has its place in climbing, I boulder only through the week when i can't climb real rocks:) I think in many aspects you miss out by only bouldering . Bouldering is no where near the head game leading trad is. Theres also something to be said for the bond that you form with a long time climbing partner, where your interaction with each other is just as important as your skills on the rock.

Bouldering is fun, and a great way to get strong, but trad is rad, always has been always will be.

I love bouldering. Its not just training for climbing, it is climbing. What do you do when you boulder? You climb a boulder or go a short way up a face without rope. Bouldering requires less gear and can be, at times, more fun than finishing a route. Dont get me wrong, I love to climb all the way up a face but bouldering is just as fun in my opinion.

I went bouldering yesterday. And day before yesterday, too. So I guess I'd have to agree with you. On the other hand, even though I'm pretty hammered, I wish I was bouldering now. Or maybe doing some long moderate routes, since my arms are kind of wasted to crank boulders ... like... SO NOW.

But my reality is:
Work...is like...SO NOW

So bouldering got a bit popular, what's the big deal.

It's not like it's new or anything.

Oh that's right, it is to some.

I don't know maybe its just me but the was i see it is climbing is climbing. whether youre climbing mt everest, or on the jungle gym.

climb-To move upward on or mount, especially by using the hands and feet or the feet alone; ascend: climb a mountain; climbed the stairs.
To grow in an upward direction on or over: ivy climbing the walls.

I dont think it matters if you boulder or youre a hard ass and you climb big ass mountains climbing is climbing

Bouldering is great. I love seeing the spongers anywhere but on the cliff.
