Just some curiousity running through my mind last night...if you all are old enough to be scourged with that thing called a "job" (gives me the chills just typing it...), what sort of work are you in? How many are college students? How many still in hs/ms? How many hours a day do you spend on this site? And where do you climb if you get a few free hours?
Anything else that seems relevant, feel free to post that as well.

I just wanted to get a sort of idea of the demographics of the users of this site.

I highly doubt I'm the typical climber out there, but I just started college and am working towards a degree in engineering. I've been climbing seriously since 6th grade although I originally became interested on in it at age 7 while on a family vacation that took me to the base of both the Thimble and Devils Tower. I dont have a job right now, and I dont want one either. I plan on taking an introduction to guide skills course in the spring just to get more time on the rocks but also so I can charge a set of camalots and a new rope to my student account and the school will then use my excess financial aid to pay for, and in the end the entire bill will go to the state of mass as a classroom expense. this is gonna be fun

I am an architect and I work full time in a design office (yes, 8 hours in front of a computer). I climb 2 or 3 times a week in a gym and once a week outside. I spend 1 or 2 hours each week in this site... I also play guitar.
Oh! and I'm 25.

Hummm
39 in 2 months, Web designer, moved in US 5 years ago from ROme (Ita) Climber since 85. Mostly sport, open to try anything if I find the right climbing partner.
I go indoor 2 times a week and outdoor 2 weekends a month. Married since 12 years, 2 kids...
what else...that's pretty much it..

I am a masters student currently about to begin my PhD studies in Mechanical Engineering.

Biggest problem is the minimum of an hour drive to anywhere to climb. Most places are 1.5 hours. Makes it only an option to go outside on the weekends unless I builder. Hit the gym 2 times a week otherwise though.

Spend lots of time on this site procrastinating.

I'm a college kid! Sophomore, in Tennessee. I go to this site mainly in between my classes to kill time and ask for advice.
I climb at Bee Rock, on Tue. and Thur, since I don't have classes. Previously only bouldered, but I just bought a rope, and am reading up on top roping :D Can't wait.

I bet the people on this site are as diverse as the types of climbing they like to do. I am an Architect, work too many hours a week in front of a computer. I try to climb 2 or 3 times a week, but winter seems to put a dent in that.

Word to that. I'm a junior in college, and I'm a physics major which seems to be pretty normal around here. I work at the climbing wall at school so I climb indoors once or twice a week. I try to get to the Daks or Rumney or some other place that's within distance for a day trip every weekend. So far I should add that I'm 3 for 3 this year!

i am a full time satellite technician as well as a full time student. needless to say this leaves little time to climb, but i manage to hit the gym once or twice a week, and since i am in the middle of all this amazing utah climbing i try to go to a different place outside every weekend. last weekend we hit ibex and the weekend before it was maple. when i have less time or gas money there is always big and little cottonwood and a.f. and rock canyon. i am 27, and hope to someday be unemployed and have someone sponsor me to live. you know, they could just give me t-shirts and hats with their company logo on it and i would just get paid for walking around.

Junior in college, art major, climb when i can (which is never often enough..no gyms close by, no rock for miles and miles and miles...)

I climb for a living. But I am a paid assassin in the world though.

But I just do that to put beans on the table. My heart is really in the mountains.

25, work and college, both full time climb outdoors twice a week. One day local (Boston) the other rumney, the woods, or pawtuckaway. Climb once a week in the gym. Spend all other time with girlfriend, studying, or sleeping.

Evidently, my 'pretend boyfriend' (buddy of mine at work) reminds me that I am crazy just in-case I've somehow forgotten - though, I am not crazy crazy...errr, yeah...

I'll be 30 in 20 days, YAY ME!

Um, what else. Oh, I answered this before, but I am a gov-slave (contractor). But, this most certainly doesn't define me as who I am.

Just transferred to Plymouth State in Plymouth, NH. Majoring in Computer Science. Attended New Hampshire Comminity Technical College for three years and Bishop's University in Lennoxville, PQ for one semester on exchange.
15 minutes from Rumney so I climb at the pound inbetween classes Monday through Thursday. I am just beginning but I am enjoying the bouldering. Some day I will take a class and find someone to climb with (but not necessarily in that order), then I will make my way over to the crags for my free time.
I spend time on rc.com to fill in time between classes as well.

I don't hink any one of these define who I am, but...

Full time Industrial Engineering student, full time job working in my own non-traditional media company and a part time job doing project development for small and midsized companies for an investment bank. That leaves just enough time to do two f the following three: have a social life, climb and sleep. Guess which one I don't do much (here's a hint, it isn't partying of climbing)?

I hit this site when I can't focus anymore on my work, so I take a break... problem is breaks come more than some might consider healthy :)

This thread comes up about once a month, but I'll bite anyway because I like your "Subject" and I was pondering this the other day. I used to spend a lot more time mountain biking than climbing. I was considering how the people I climb with are different than the people I biked with. Stereotypes are no good, but I felt like the climbers tended to care less about their health...they smoke cigs and pot, drink more heavily and don't get as much cardio. The bikers were pretty much the opposite. I like all of the people I do both sports with, but I feel better about bringing the bikers around my family than I do the climbers. The bikers I ride with seem to be better influences on me than the climbers I climb with. No offense to my climbing partners! I am not making a generalization about climbers vs. bikers because I only hang out with a handful of each. I guess this is more of a rant than anything. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but it was on my mind.

I'm 26 years old and have been climbing about 4 years. I don't climb indoors unless there is absolutely no other choice...I try to get outside climbing 3-4 times per week. I am married financial planner with 2 kids ages 2 & 3.

Climbing Guide, Outdoor Photographer, and sometimes writer.

(In other words, the bottom of the socio-economic ladder, top of the bliss chain)

45 years old and climbing just as hard as I ever have (less strength, more technique) which isn't that hard. Climbing for 28 years but only knew what I was doing "properly" for 24 of those years.

I am old (almost 52), fat, and have a much younger stone-cold fox for a spouse as well as two daughters, 15 and 13 who are my occasional climbing partners. Lately I’ve been getting on rock anywhere from one to three weekends a month, however, the kids are very active and I find myself often at karate and marching band competitions. My favorite climbing techniques are cunning, deceit, and guile; my favorite gear is a diminishing memory. To pay for the kids’ braces, I analyze real estate investments and write huge reports that nobody reads. Although I work with others, my primary office since 1990 is about 25 steps from my bed. I am also an investor in a local micro brewery. Life’s been good so far.

That's kinda interesting, actually... The bikers I know were a bunch of pothead/smokers/drinkers... Incidently, one of the guys was a killer cyclist and somehow had better cardio then some of the guys he biked with, which they couldn't figure out either (he smoked a pack a day, and was most likely high all day at work too)... My ex, stopped puffn' and smoking and bikes as well (single fixed gear)...Hm, then there's a buddy of mine who was made into drugs and although he doesn't do them now, he still is a killer cyclist...

I'll be 21 this friday!

I have a degree in Chemical Engineering from UCSB and an associates degree in Fire Tecnology from El Camino, but I work at REI and love it.
I just started doing some work for Dow Chemicals on a contractual basis every now and then, but sitting at a desk doesn't get me my jollies. Every living, breathing second I am not working I am climbing or training for climbing. (or surfing, snowboarding, playing guitar, biking, making pottery). I guess most of the time I am climbing or training for climbing.
