I was wondering if there were any people out there with a copy of Fifty Classic Climbs, by Roper and Steck, that they wanted to sell. (Feel free to move this post, if there's a better place for it.) [ This Message was edited by: jds100 on 2003-01-15 10:14 ]

Chris, I believe the book has recently been re-released. I've seen it @ Borders and Barnes & Noble. Have you checked Amazon? Good luck. Gene

I think you maybe thinking of the book by Kroese. There are books listed on Amazon, but they are used and VERY expensive.

I have a used copy of "Fifty Crappy Climbs of North America" I will loan you. It's the 4th edition - the cover features a guy handjamming a crack in a concrete retaining wall in east Kansas City. The landing zone is broken Miller bottles and used condoms.

In reply to: Anyone with a book care to list the fifty classic climbs of North America? They keep a pretty good list of classic climbs here. I wasn't planning to sell my copy of 50 Classic Climbs of NA, but if someone would actually pay >$100 for my copy (Very Good condition), I'm interested.

Though published in 1979, some of these routes have still not seen a second ascent (e.g. Mount Logan, Hummingbird Ridge, though attempted). Some of these routes require some huge motivation and a deep belief boardering on delusion that some how you will make it (e.g. Mount Edith Cavell, North Face). I have honestly ticked 7, attempted 4 others, scouted out a couple, and realistically expect to do 14 more in my lifetime... ... these routes range from straightforward to extremely dangerous, be careful out there! Fifty Classic Climbs of North America, Steck and Roper: Mount Saint Elias, Abruzzi Ridge Mount Fairweather, Carpe Ridge Mount Hunter, West Ridge Mount McKinley, Cassin Ridge Moose's Tooth, West Ridge Mount Huntington, West Ridge Mount Logan, Hummingbird Ridge Middle Tripple Peak, East Buttress Mount Sir Donald, Northwest Arete Bugaboo Spire, East Ridge South Howser Tower, West Buttress Mount Robson, Wishbone Arete Mount Edith Cavel, North Face Mount Alberta, Japanese Route Mount Temple, East Ridge Mount Waddington, South Face Devil's Thumb, East Ridge Lotus Flower Tower Mount Rainier, Liberty Ridge Forbidden Peak, West Ridge Mount Shuksan, Price Glacier Sleese Mountain, Northeast Buttress Mount Stuart, North Ridge Liberty Bell Mountain, Liberty Crack Devil's Tower, Durrance Route Grand Teton, North Ridge Grand Teton, Direct Exum Ridge Grand Teton, North Face Mount Moran, Direct South Buttress Pingora, East Face Wolf's Head, East Ridge Crestone Needle, Ellingwood Ledges Hallet Peak, Northcutt-Carter Route Petit Grepon, South Face Longs Peak, The Diamond Shiprock Castleton Tower, Kor-Ingalls Route The Titan The Royal Arches Lost Arrow Spire Sentinel Rock, Steck-Salathe Route Middle Cathedral Rock, East Buttress Half Dome, Northwest Face El Capitan, Nose Route El Capitan, Salathe Wall Mount Whitney, East Face Fairview Dome, North Face Clyde Minaret, Southeast Face Charlotte Dome, South Face Lover's Leap, Traveler Buttress
