My husband and I are considering trying out Fontainebleau soon as we live in the UK and can get cheap flights. My only concern is the atmosphere in the forest. Has anyone ever been with their kids? We boulder regularly and take our 2 year old with us. He's pretty happy for a few hours with his cars and enjoys pretending to climb (and one of us taking him walking around for a while).

I just don't want to get all the way there, realize it's totally unsuitable for a little one and then one of us has to stay back at the house or gite. I could see some major arguments there as to who got more time on the rock.

Any advice would be helpful!

i havent got kids, but...
in my experiance of font it seems very child friendly. mainly due to the fact most of it is a giant sand pit. there are lots of kiddys circuits.
in the 6 years ive been going there you see lots of families with kids of all ages. if the kid can servive in the peak then you wont have any problems there.

got to font nearly every year. seeing as the french always have their kids in the forest teaching them to climb i think that its a great idea to take your kids with you. at the more popular places there are often parents there with their kids, some just walking in the forest and some bouldering. have to say its usually the french people who have thier kids bouldering but its never to young to start! wish my parents had taken me to font as a kid! cant see anyone complaining anyway! the photo i have online of me bouldering at le elephant in one i didnt post online there was a couple bouldering behind me with their kid in a pram.

at some of the more secluded spots you can find yourself alone for the afternoon.

you never know you might have a junior neil gresham on your hands!

It's common to see families in Font. You'll see parent, kids, and even grandparents climbing together there routinely. As mentioned, the ground around much of the climbing is nice and sandy. I mean as in like a beach in many cases. The little one will probably love it.

Thanks everyone! I'm even more convinced now. Guess I better try and find that cheap flight (and pack the sand shovel and plastic dump truck)!

Cheers!
