This past weekend was my 6th trip to Haycock (sorry Chris, it was completely last minute). Also my 6th attempt to find 3-star. Consequently it was my 6th time not finding this infamous boulder. I tried following the guidebook, that didn't work. I tried going off of directions that someone from the gym gave me, that didn't work. This last trip I walked from Hanger 18 to the other parking area. I was able to find every area and climb that is listed in the guidebook, except 3-star.

From what I have gathered so far, there should be a trail that cuts up the hill from the Caves Trail. 3-star is located at the end of this trail.

Can anyone help me find 3-star? Is there a trail that goes to it?

Thanks

follow the caves trail to dubeck, walk a bit past there and look for a slightly beaten trail to the right, if not just hang a right and keep walking you will see it.

Thanks. That was the first time anyone has given directions from Dubeck, so hopefully that will get me there. This weekend looks like it might be decent, so I will make another attempt.

Finally found it this past weekend. What a stellar problem. I think the 4 month search and wait just added to the experience.

After a few minutes placing pads and tying shoes, I started up the crack I had been waiting to find. It went fast, but not too fast. The people watching said I flew up it. The rock, the weather, and I were in perfect harmony. The entire climb I was in a Zen-like state like I've never been in before. The adrenaline rush that followed was like the first time I went skydiving, I was shaking, and couldn't help but to holer like a caveman every so often.

The rest of the evening I couldn't stop thinking about it. So many trips ending in disappointment from not finding this one boulder. 4 months of waiting and wanting, and the whole thing was over in less than one minute. What a strange life we lead!!!
