Is it in the Wind River Mountains? If so, Falcon Guides carries one for Central Wyoming.

My brother used to have a ranch 20 miles south of Ten Sleep. About 10 years ago when I used to go up there, I put up a few routes there and some of the locals showed me some of their established routes. It is really good. It is like Sinks Canyon, but about 20 miles longer and there is good easily accessed rock on both sides of the canyon. To get to the climbing, just drive up Ten Sleep Canyon from Ten Sleep. Ten Sleep Canyon is in between Ten Sleep and Buffalo. You only need to drive about 15 miles from Ten Sleep to reach tons and tons and tons of rock. It was about 10 years ago, so I can't really remember that much, but you should check it out. Back then the locals had put up about 30 good routes, and the summer I was up there I put up around 5 routes from 5.10 to 5.13a.

forget 10sleep, that place is the biggest sand-bag in Wyoming. the truth is, it's a terrible, small climbing area in the middle of a cowfield that's been over-blown by a bunch of hillbilly egotists. if you want to climb sharp, chossy, dirty, slabs: make the loooong drive to 10sleep. if you want brilliant, clean, overhanging routes: head to the lander area.
there is no wyoming sport climbing outside of lander.

Sorry, wu-tang. Although I haven't personally climbed in Tensleep canyon, I've got many friends who have. The consensus was that the area was killer! Lander is a mecca, but open your mind to the other areas of Wyoming that offer great routes. I'm not sure where you're from, but some people may enjoy towns like Tensleep, Buffalo, and Worland. Kudos to the Bighorns!

Dude, your adventure is ON! You get to go to a great climbing area, and then just, GO FOR IT! No topo. No beta. Pure, semi-first ascent bliss. You will probably either miss out on the best routes, or get horribly stuck halfway up, but, hey, that's Old School Trad for you.

BTW, one difference between trad and aid climbing is that New Wave Aid is harder than Old School Aid, whereas Old School Trad is harder than New Wave Trad. At least if you do it right 8-)

I'm jealous.

choss-holio. the truth is, boys and girls, there is no killer cave in tensleep- only sinks. there are no powerful, steep, bouldery routes in tensleep- only wild iris.
i hear there is one hell of a party every year. long drive for shitty climbing and a hangover though.

Maybe it's just me wu-tang, but I find powerful cave climbing to be a rather small and insignificant portion of climbing. Just because your muscles are bigger than your brain and you can't learn how to use your feet to smear, doesn't mean that vertical or less than vertical climbing is a joke. And what's funny about all this is that you probably chip holds and overbolt routes.

Maybe it's just me. Couloir, but I think you have some sort of "penis envy" because you live in Lawrence, Kansas. The closest thing you have to cave climbing is a small, dusty corner in the local gym. No doubt if a huge cave chock-full off 100ft long, overhanging routes on bullet limestone were dropped into the flatlands of Kansas- you and your climbing buddies would s--- yourselves. I seriously doubt you would go back to slab climbing.
As for your comment about my intelligence, well, I'll let that one go. I enjoy being strong, and anyone who knows me will tell you: Wu Tang's routes are far from over-bolted and definitely 100% natural.
ps: you'll be psyched to know, I just added you to my list of rockclimbing.com friends!

The closest you'll get to a guide without knowing AAron personally, is the routes section of this site. Drill down to Tensleep, I believe the directions are adequate and the route info, while a bit outdated, is fairly accurate. Don't worry about flooding, there are plenty of sandbags in the Cowboy State!! LOL Come and get it!!

Anywhere there is climbing and climbers can't be all bad! I don't know if this will help but there are some topos for Wyoming on this site. http://drtopo.com/ Ten Sleep isn't in there but some of the other areas which you've been recommened are.

Pansee's right. There is some crazy stuff over there in Tensleep. I was with him. Wu-Tang and Wyclimber are both insane. Climbing wise and other I think. But Wyclimber knows his stuff. Tensleep kicks ass.

Wu is right, 10sleep is a heap of rubble. If you must come to Wy. to do some climbing, your best bet is the Lander area for sport. Head to Jackson and take advantage of the Tetons if you are into that. There is nothing in the Bighorns besides obsure chossy cliffs that some of the locals climb at to avoid the polished Lander area. Word to Wu!
